Blazers offer C Oden qualifying offer ---Worth it to pry away?

    If we are hesitating over offering a minimun contract to Yao, I don't see how we should even considering a 8M+ contract to Oden. what does Oden has that's better than Yao at this stage?

    At least, Yao is better, proven to be able to stay healthy longer, and probably younger than Oden...

    Thabeet= Low Risk, High Reward
    Yao= High Risk, High Reward
    Oden= High Risk, High Reward


    Have all 3 on the roster, the likelihood of one of them panning out isn't as crazy as you think.

    Its not like that other 8 million is going to go towards a piece that will put is in the championship, at this point gotta take a few chances.

    Keep in mind that this QO is not just "an offer to beat," it makes Oden a restricted free agent. Paul Allen has money to burn. It's 100% in his control whether Oden is in Portland next year or not.

    I feel no more comfortable with offering Dalembert a guaranteed 4-yr/ 10 mil per contract than I would offering Greg Oden a partially guaranteed 3-yr/ 8 mil per contract.

    If you offer Yao a minimum contract then he is Low Risk / High Reward

    Why?

    With Dalembert you know you can get a couple of blocks and 10 boards a game. With Oden you don't even know if you can get him out of the rehab center.

    Dalembert is inconsistent, and doesn't always play hard. Why do you think Philly tried so hard to trade him. He did exactly what he's about to do. He played well in a contract year, signed a big contract, and then slacked off. Teams don't go shopping 7 foot centers unless there are issues. His issues are consistency and motor. My point is that he's a much more expensive investment, and comes with underperformance risks. Whether its mental or physical, they're still risks tied to underperformance.

    Too much to risk, If he can play 50 games or next might be worth the bite, but honestly nope :(
