http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13970431 Recalling 110K hybrids. Is their reputation now tarnished? It seems that as Toyota decided to build plants in America, the quality has dropped to the level of well...American auto manufacturers. Japanese make the best quality cars by far imo.
Um...no. Their quality has dropped b/c they became greedy and wanted to mass produce, rather than maintaining the quality of the cars.
From looking at YTD sales, the Toyota Camry has outsold every other car (non-pickup) in the US so far this year. This is after the reliability hits and the nuclear crisis. I just helped my parents buy a new Honda Accord. There were some pretty good deals to be had on those cars.
While their YTD sales are still ahead of the competitors, they had a % decrease from the same time frame as of last year. Brands like Hyundai and Nissan are picking up customers. Toyota was about to rebuild their reputation as they retook a lot of the reliability ratings, but now this comes out? not good. I'm looking to buy the 8th generation Honda Accord coupe myself.
Recalls are ridiculously common. My Civic Hybrid has been recalled 3 times that I can recall. My 1995 Ford Ranger was still getting recalled 10 years after it was produced. The problem is if they know something and do nothing about it, lie or try to deny their mistakes.
LOL. It must be nice to live in another country and get to blame whatever you want on the US. "I was late to work today, it was America's fault!" But yeah Toyota has become a giant, boring-ass car producing company with poor reliability.
If I remember correctly the hybrids are built in Japan and only the bigger model cars are built in the USA plants.
