i wouldnt say chase earned it more than there was really no one else to plug in and chase was more mature than williams was (who was probably also in RA's doghouse) unless Morris or Williams wows the coach though I dont expect chase to lose the spot right away it generally stays the same unless someone else makes a leap forward to prove they are better. I dont expect chase to be the starter at the end of the season...if he is then the Rockets will be in serious trouble.
Chase had some pretty decent stats as the starter last year. http://espn.go.com/nba/player/splits/_/id/3968/chase-budinger 22 games started. 13.9 ppg 3.9 rpg 2.5 apg .352% 3pt .435% overall Those are not bad for a guy that is not one of the main options, and the 2.5 assists per game are pretty good too. I know he catches a lot of heat for his defense, or lack thereof, but I saw improvement there as well. He might be traded, or he might be here for a long time, I think the job is his to lose. DD
exactly my thoughts but it was an option :/ Bud will be the starter in the beginning and could very well be out of the rotation by seasons end if Twill develops like he should
I wouldn't be surprised if Budinger started at the beginning of the season. That's the easy answer. It would keep some continuity from last year, a group that played well together at the end. With that said, if McHale is really going to give everyone a clean slate, a real fair shot, I think Morris could start right off the bat. He is simply the better player, offensively and defensively, as of today. I don't think this coaching staff is going to hold over any old comfort levels or past favorites. I hope they play the best players, especially the young ones with room to grow. For those(one person) who thinks Budinger is going to break out because this is his third year: Budinger has not significantly improved in the past FIVE years. Why do you think he slid so far in the draft? I wouldn't be surprised if he was traded before the season is over. In fact I would be extremely surprised if he wasn't.
For this pick to be justified I think he has to start. Respect budinger but at the end of the day he is still a late 2nd round draft pick. T will is a 2 guard.
You might be right, I think that the same can be said for PPat last year, but to be honest, players drafted below 10 have a high bust rate in comparison. I think a lot of people are expecting a LOT of Morris in his first year, and most guys drafted that low in the first round are lower rotation guys at best. DD
I love the way the GARM goes crazy for new toys. First, Bud won't be traded because his contract value (about $800k) is so small we could never get equal value unless packaged. Second, Bud's defense was on the rise during the last half of the season and he undoubtedly is working on it. Third, Bud potentially gives us a 30-point scorer from deep, mid-range or close -- a hard weapon to leave in the holster -- to keep the defenses from sagging into the paint. Glow over the new toys, guys -- but Morris will be "2B" (Bud's backup) all season long. Terrence Williams may play in garbage time, but he won't even contest 2B's time. In due time most of the new toy enthusiasts will be eating crow again. But at least they can have a Bud with it.
So why can't he be packaged? Some people are glowing over new toys, others liked Morris all along since before we drafted him. You keep saying Morris will be a backup all year in every thread you go in. Like I said in the other one: I got $100 to the tip jar that says he will be the starting SF before the end of the season. You game? Don't worry, I'm not holding my breath on a response.
I voted for CBud. I think he wasn't that bad on defense. The only time he struggled was when his shot wasn't falling, otherwise he is adequate as a starting SF. I lost all my faith in TWill and MMorris is still a rookie. To me, TWill was the most disappointing Rockets player last season.
Chase hasn't improved much, but what's wrong with being good all three years? He had solid numbers every year in college with marginal improvements every year despite having 3 coaches in 3 years... I'm not saying he'll be our star or anything like that, but its not impossible for him to average 18/6/3 for us as a starter. I really like Marcus Morris, and if he's better than Chase then he should start; however, I wouldn't pencil him into the small forward spot just yet. We still don't know if he can play SF in the NBA.
Wow, really going out on a limb to say Bud will start at the beginning of the year. Put you money where your mouth is: Like I said: $100 says he is not the backup ALL SEASON LONG. Don't be a p***y, take the real bet.
Just realized, Chase will have 5 coaches in 6 years LOL! His teammates are probably talking about the Bud curse or something.
