Yes, they are willing. This is the same party that threatened to allow low and middle class tax cuts to expire if the dems didn't re-up on Bush's tax cuts for the rich.

Yes you idiots, they used us as human shields to protect the rich.

The debt ceiling was raised 7 times under Bush. Dick Cheney said deficits don't matter.

If this thing goes to shait, the ultra rich will still be rich, maybe more so in relative terms of buying power.

    nice to see

Democrats Explicitly Call Out GOP For Sabotaging The Economic Recovery

In a Capitol press conference Wednesday, the Senate's top Democrats argued that Republicans don't want to pass measures like a temporary payroll tax holiday for employers because they'll improve President Obama's re-election chances.

"Our Republican colleagues in the House and Senate are driven by putting one man out of work: President Obama," said Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL).

'What's best for the Party' Mentality is one that is killing both parties.

Hell the Weiner thing was as much . . what is good for the party mentality.
    [just not as wide spread[
The people in his district . . .you know the ones he represented. . .
did not want him gone . . .but he had to resign . . for the good of the party.

All of it . . is sickening.

How many times are we going to raise the debt ceiling, avert disaster, and then totally ignore how we got there in the first place?

The Republicans have to be willing to accept some tax increases (ie on the wealthy) and the Democrats have to be willing to accept reductions in spending in order to bring this under control. Only then will the dollar have a prayer of making a serious rebound and provide lasting improvement to the economy.

Democrats have put possible cuts to social security on the table and suspending some taxes on small businesses. Where are the republican concessions?

As often as necessary to prevent a total global economic meltdown.

US defaulting on its debt is far too dangeorus to be a bargaining chip in negotiations about defunding NPR.

Really? A strong dollar doesn't help anything (and actually it's been relatively strong recently). Look at the Yen - it's at an alltime high, as Japan sinks into oblivion.

If you want the US to repeat Japan's lost 2 decades you should want a stronger dollar & Deflation - but growth is more likely to come from a devalued dollar than a strong one.

I don't think this is a huge deal, but it stinks and Cantor should make amends of one form or another.

As far as creating the appearance of impropriety, this is as textbook as it gets.

The answer to this problem is easy - all national legislators & administrators should just put their investment assets in a blind trust like the President does (and like the Presidents before him did) and we wouldn't have this issue.

I was just thinking back to a Nader rally I checked out in 2000. I remember one of the speakers saying that to those who say a vote for Nader will lead to a disastrous Bush Presidency that would be good because if things got worse it would help to change things towards the Green Party's point of view.

14th Amendment: Democratic Senators See Debt Ceiling As Unconstitutional

WASHINGTON -- Growing increasingly pessimistic about the prospects for a deal that would raise the debt ceiling, Democratic senators are revisiting a solution to the crisis that rests on a simple proposition: The debt ceiling itself is unconstitutional.

"The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law... shall not be questioned," reads the 14th Amendment.....
