+1. We are going nowhere, so might as well throw out everybody out there and see what they got. If Thabeet is going to flop, let him flop in front of everybody and be done with it.
Let's just shoot him in the head and burn his body in a funeral pyre right there in the middle of the Toyota center.
Look at it this way, Chuck Hayes is a free-agent and if I were an immediate contending team in the West I would go after Hayes. Why? Because he is an effective defender against Dirk, Durant, LeMarcus Aldridge and the types. I don't think any team is going to sign him to play starter minutes but I feel confident someone will take a chance on him. So Morey, being who he is, probably already has a number for Chuck Hayes he is not willing to cross. So, basically if Chuck's a goner, I don't see why the Rockets wouldn't let Thabeet play extended minutes. Only if D-Mo were to play this coming strike shortened season would I not throw Thabeet into the starting roll...or if Yao comes back circa 2009 playoff level. These rumors about Fesenko do not excite me.
LMAO, people acting like the Rockets are an old team. We have ONE player over 30 and that's Scola who is 31. Two are 28 (Martin and Hayes). The rest are 25 or younger. What more do you want? Is it the Rockets' fault that they draft/trade well and acquire young players with some talent that keep us around .500? It's just more proof that a stud center is really all we need (Gasol, Jordan, Howard). The way this team rebuilds is just a little different.
Everyone has been asking for a Tyson Chandler type player including me. Well, it turns out that Humphries is Chandler statistically when it comes to points, rebounds and blocks. They weigh the same too. Of course, Chandler is better at altering shots. I'm just throwing it out there. I wouldn't mind him at around 5 is all I'm saying. He might get more so all of this could be a moot point. Jordan and Marc Gasol will be matched. Are Dalembert and Nene attainable? Probably not. Scola for Humphries and an expiring plus draft considerations from NJ wouldn't be the most surprising thing in the world. Assuming a SnT exists in the new CBA..
Kaun was drafted by the Cavs and hasn't played in the NBA. Do you mean the other young center the Jazz had? The greek kid who was drafted higher, in the first round, IIRC. That guy was a bust.
The rockets have to just throw thabeet in the pool and he will learn to swim, I mean how can this guy not alter shots, if he is given the time he has to record blocks and rebounds? He is a tree in the paint leave him in the game he is our only shot!
If the rockets wanna go to playoffs they need a legit center. Trade Hill for 2 2nd rounders and cash to create space. Sign either dalembert or Pzybilla for 1-2 years for defense or Hopefully sign Deandre jordan or Marc gasol. Maybe Oden or Hawes too. For long-term use.
We could always hope for a breakout from him, but I'm just not seeing it. About the same chance as Yao coming back healthy, tbh.
Thabeet could very well be the center we need. How are you going to know without giving him consistent minutes? Point is it's decision time on Thabeet, Hill, TWill, and Flynn. You can dump them to make cap room or resign them for reasonable options. But how the heck can you really make that decision with Thabeet in the D league, and the rest buried on the bench or with limited minutes? I really believe we can make the playoffs and will root for that to happen, but I would much rather see the four amentioned get a ton of minutes and lay it to rest that either these guys can live up to their potential or not. For God sakes no more Brad Miller bandaids, as you mentioned we are not a vet team, so no Fysenkos. I am terrified that we are going to pull a Detroit Pistons and sign guys just to sign them because we a have a little caproom and miss out on the Howard/Dwill/CP3 s contest. If we can't trade for or sign a superstar you have to draft one and no one seems to want to sign here or demand to be traded here. So lets pull a San Antonio Spurs, run the young guys and get a top pick and then hopefully use the capspace to get one of those big 3.
You can't have your cake and eat it too. None of those guys would want to come to Houston long-term if we're a bottom-feeder team. The best thing to do is to remain competitive & attractive to a marquee free agent.
