Nice use of the "I have a black friend, therefore I cannot possibly be racist regardless of what I say" defense. Very subtle and original.
It does not mean that he does not know what a cycle of poverty is. These are all very serious and complex issues in our society and too often people either are uncomfortable discussing them or move to extreme's that are on display in the responsesin this thread. Blacks in America are not the first or last group oppressed by society. Having said that, the facts are that we as a nation are failing in the black community. The crime, poverty and incarceration rates are higher than anyone would like. The responsibility in some ways falls upon everyone's shoulders. There is no perfect victim or predator in the situation.
That is the issue at a nut shell. Not saying there's an easy solution, but I have a problem with statements like this: "Robbery? Black people? Not surprised". It's like if person A beat up person B, and then make a comment like "Bleeding on the carpet? B? not surprised".
yeah, i want to talk about idiot criminals being pinned against the fence. old ladies jumping on cars, crap like that. then everyone had to get all stupid and ****. thanks guys.
I don't even get what you are arguing, are you saying Asian have more drive, or that my argument of sampling bias doesn't hold? It is still easier to cross a border than the ocean, which means you'll have a lot less illegal immigrants from Asia (especially with things improving economically within Asia). The legal immigrants that come here are usually educated and have unique skills that let them in. They are also sometimes literally the top .01% of the population (basically who makes it to the top tier colleges in Asia). So yeah, in terms of selection bias, you are more likely to get an Asian immigrants with incredible drive and ability. Now if U.S. say they will allow 100,000 random Chinese from the country side into the U.S. and let them start a life here, you'll have a lot better sample of people to compare.
This is not a joke. That is a bait, assuming what the reactions will be, then you will present your "precious Facts"
Do you not consider people who got into qinghua and fudan the top .01% of high school students in china? I consider those that get into harvard and mit the top .01% of us students.
Ah yes, there's definitely no racial undertones in this post. You're right, African Americans have a disproportionately high crime rate per capita; that's a direct result of more poverty (and institutionalized discrimination in America - but I digress) in the black community. Caucasians still commit 70% of crimes in the USA. That number has stayed steady the past decade (here's 2009's numbers for reference http://www2.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2009/data/table_43.html - latinos are split between whites and blacks depending on skin color). Does it really matter? Leave statistical analysis to the professionals, please don't use blunt statistics to make any generalizations about any races. It's idiotic. At the end of the day, a criminal is a criminal regardless of race. Your assumptions don't reflect reality, there are many more important factors than race which cause crime. Do you honestly believe just because someone is a particular race they are predisposed to be a criminal?
