As expected. http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/sports/nba/110627-rockets-pick-up-option-for-goran-dragic
Didn't realize he shot 52% percent downtown. That along with a triple double in only 22 games is pretty good. That said, I can't see him on next years team.
Dragic is an excellent PG. It's tough to have him back anyone up. We are so flush at PG. I absolutely love our team.
The only reason he wouldn't be on next year's team is if he were traded. I fully expect the Rockets to go into the year with three point guards. In my opinion, they'll play all three, try to up all of their values, and then trade one. Jonny Flynn is not done in the NBA. The guy still has a lot of talent and loads of potential. He's only 22, and has played in a system that didn't fit his game his whole career (so far). You could even say that Flynn has a chance to be this team's point guard of the future (an outside chance). In my opinion, yeah, Dragic will probably stay as a valuable back-up, and I see either Lowry going (which would suck, but we could potentially get a first round pick or package him with Scola for a star) or Flynn (after he is shown off). I would hate to part with Lowry, but a combination of Scola, Lowry, and a future first could net us something decent.
From what Timberwolves fans say, those are just excuses for Johnny Flynn. He was supposed to be picked late teens, early twenties but Kahn somehow picked him up at #6....
I think Flynn stays unless he is part of a deal that will get us another PG. We need an insurance back up if one of the two goes down. If its not Flynn, its another guard they sign.
Actually almost all the mock drafts had Flynn going anywhere from 4-10 in that years draft with most of them spot on with him at #6.
Goran Dragic played well for the Rockets including the last few games he started when Lowry was out. One of the best backup PGs in the league at a cheap price. Good move.
I don't remember him being mocked late teens. I remember him being mocked right around the point he was picked. The latest he was mocked was around 10. The shocker was the Kahn picked Rubio and Flynn. Flynn just needs a chance to run and be a play maker. I don't care if Minny fans think those are his excuses, they are the truth. It's what he's done since high school. That's the type of player he is. His high school team had great talent, won a few state titles, and he was the star of the show. Paul Harris was the other star, but didn't have it mentally, or else he could be in the league now, also. Flynn is a play maker, a leader, and someone who has the heart of a lion. Yeah, I will admit to being a bit of a Flynn homer, but if not with this team, Flynn will make it somewhere as AT LEAST solid backup. Worst case with this trade, we got a lottery-projected big who can score in buckets and has potential to be great, and we got someone who we should be able to flip in a decent trade. Best case, we got a big man who will be an all-star, and we got our point guard of the future. Not saying he's going to be an all-star, but he'll be a solid NBA player. The trade was a win-win. Great job by Morey. All that being said, we are extremely deep at the point. I love Dragic's game. Glad we re-upped him.
I think you were a little too busy playing final fantasy and freaking out over chocobos before the lead up to this draft....Flynn was a consensus top-10 pick pretty much.
I think the two most important anchors on a team are Point Guard and Center. Having quality at those two position cement a team foundation. Dragic stabilizes the position even more. Right now the Rockets have great quality at the position. Lowry and Dragic are two guys who've proven themselves on the NBA floor. Lowry knows how to run a team. And let's face it, when Lowry got injured at the end of last season, the Rockets offense did not miss a beat with Dragic running the show. Martin, Scola, and Hayes are such good team players, they'll allow a pass oriented Point Guard to flurish and find his niche... Flynn if he stays with the Rockets and wants to be a true pass first point guard, will become an All-star here in Houston... Very happy with Lowry, Dragic, and Flynn... Of course I'd trade all 3 for Chris Paul in a heart beat - but the position is quite stable right now
Dragic has a lot of potential. I am excited to see what he can do this year over a full season. Have to give Morey cred. Getting Dragic and basically Dontas for Brooks, who we couldn't have kept anyway, was a stroke of genius.
What kind of Jazz-loving comment is that? Dragic may well supplant Lowry as the starting PG because he has the leadership, handles, shooting ability, passing skills and vision front line point guards need. I love Lowry too, but his game is too much like Steve Francis -- charge into the big guns regardless of the injury he might sustain.
