My only quibble with that is we were still technically in the playoff race

The Warriors want to get rid of Biedrins because of his decline in play and his contract but yet they're still want a lot back for him. If they want to get rid of him then a package of Hill and Thabeet should be good enough. But instead, they are trying to ask for too much so if they won't accept Hill and Thabeet, then have fun keeping Biedrins and paying for his contract.

If going after Nene, we would probably do a S&T.

Except the team played better after the Battier trade. How much that had to do with Aaron Brooks being traded as well is up for debate though.

If they can't snag Gasol, Biedrins looks like a pretty good alternative. The team doesn't need a scorer at center, it needs a big body, someone who can rebound and block shots. The scoring is well-covered at other positions. Biedrins might be expensive, and he has been injured, but he's the right kind of guy when healthy. It's a worthy gamble if nothing else pans out.

    2 reasons IMO,

1.-Scola contributes a lot more to the team that fans perceive,

2.-Despite how durable he is (he was absent several games for first time in his career due to a big guy falling in his knee, not because of him becoming suddenly injury prone), and depite that in 6 years he'll be in better shape that most athletic freaks in his early 20's today (see Nash at 37)...for trade value, other GM are eager to get young players.

So, it's more likely that Rockets can get better players in return by giving away young players than giving away Scola.

I wish there were more updates on how Hasheem is doing with McHale's tutoring during these allegedly intense workouts with him and Jordan Hill.

Me too. But the fact that Houston was reportedly willing to ship off both Hill and Thabeet for an underachieving 7 footer making almost double didget millions per year is indeed an ominus sign :(

It could've been guys weren't looking over they're shoulder worried about being traded because the deadline expired. Aaron Brooks wasn't THAT much of a issue

You're convinced the Rockets are one of the least talented teams in the league, and yet you're complaining that they were trying to upgrade their talent level at the trade deadline?

And Battier was traded to the team we were trying to get past, then proceeding to help them make what was easily the deepest playoff run in their history. Another impact? Adelman gets blasted by various and sundry here for not playing Thabeet and Williams, both of whom looked like absolute crap when they were on the court, and we were still attempting to squeeze into the playoffs. But ancient history now, right?

It depends on if you thought we could make that type of playoff run. The fact is that we traded 7 weeks of Battier for a project C (we needed a C), and a future 1st rounder which just helped us acquire another 7 footer. Since our starting C is 6-6, I would gladly trade 7 weeks of Battier for two big-men projects. But then again, I didn't expect us to have that type of playoff run and I really don't see how a 1st round exit helps us long-term.

I wasn't happy about the Battier trade (not so bothered by the AB deal). However, think aboout this:

The Battier trade netted the 2013 Memphis pick (and Thabeet, who is useless). The AB trade netted the 2011 23rd pick (and Dragic, who is not useless).

The 23rd pick + the Memphis pick, i.e. the progeny of the AB+Battier trades, got us the 20th pick, Motiejunas, the 2012 Wolves 2nd rounder, Johnny Flynn (who may or may not be useless) and got us out of Brad Miller's contract. Along with Dragic and Thabeet, this is not a bad haul for a couple of 1/2 season rentals.

Do they really think they can hold out on Morey and cause him to blink? the one thing the guy is known for is being too shrewd for his own good...

Because Jordan Hill is really a 4 and not a 5? He was serviceable as a PF but failed miserably when asked to play C. Also, haven't we seen enough of centers with injury problems?

Bima, I agree that once Nene opts out, he should be the #1 FA target. He'll be a UFA so he can go anywhere.

The question is, will the Rockets be able to compete financially for his services in terms of the cap? It appears Nene likes Denver, so the Rockets would have to come up with a package as close to what Denver can offer as they can.

Maybe Morey can get Nene an iPad2 for his troubles. :p

Well, the Rockets are in a situation where Scola and Martin, for better or for worse, are the stars on the team. And Scola is in his 30's already.... They can't sit around and develop Thabeet...

If the Rockets can swing a deal to get a good center who can defend the lane, they have to get him. I know that Thabeet was the 2nd pick 2 years ago, but sometimes, a team needs to push forward and let another team develop talent.

Right now with T-Will, Thabeet, Hill, and Flynn - the Rockets are chewing on a lot.... They need capable players, not bench warmers with unlocked potential.

    Biedrinis / Hayes - ???Yao????
    Scola / Patterson - Motiejunas
    Budinger / Morris - Parsons
    Martin / Lee - TWill
    Lowry / Drogic - Flynn

It's a formidable Blue Collar team.....
