Squid trade was maybe below average for a Morey trade.

Would Biedrins start over Chuck if he were traded?
    My guess is no.
Anybody who's coming here to play center will have to be an upgrade over Hayes or else it's not worth it.
That's the problem with DeAndre, Asik, Biedrins, Fesenko, etc. They would not beat out Chuck.
Only Nene, Gasol, and maybe Kaman would be able to the aforementioned.

Which brings me to ask, wouldn't Kaman be a better option than Biedrins?
Both have injury history but Kaman is clearly a much better player at this point and his contract is up after this year if we don't want to keep him.

I feel like it's too early to judge that. It's only been half a season and he really hasn't played under Rick. It's an "incomplete" at this point.

    Could this work?

    Houston Gets: Biedrins, Gallinari

Denvers Gets: Scola, Bud, 2012 2nd rd Golden State pick, 2013 or 2014 1st rd Houston pick (lottery protected)

Golden State Gets: Hill, Thabeet, Mozgov, 2012 2nd rd Houston pick, 2014 Denver 1st rd pick (from New York)

Maybe the Battier for Thabeet trade. I didn't really understand that one, but that may also be because I am a big Battier fan.

Biedrins is a headcase. There is absolutely no way I would want him anywhere near the Rockets. Look at this interviewhe gave prior to last season; he clearly sounds like he's it it only for the money, and is playing to protect himself over trying to win. Considering he's an energy/hustle guy, if he's more worried about his body than going all out, he's beyond useless.
Does this sound like a guy that is going to work hard and get back to where he was before he had a fat contract?

It was a future first rounder and 15 months to work on the Hasheem Thabeet Project in exchange for letting Memphis have Shane rather than keep him for the SEVEN WEEKS he'd remain with this team.

Shane's my favorite player. But he was GONE after this season.

Not a bad return for seven weeks of your 5th(?) best player.

    Fantastic, freakin post man...

People will be in for a rude awakening when a 7 footer does not fix our problems defensively...

Hopefully Morris can help at the SF...

Agreed. That's why I think Nene will be the Rockets' #1 free agent target once free agency starts after the lockout.

Getting Kaman will not be nearly as easy as getting Biedrins, for both reasons you gave (better player; better current contract situation). Hell, there's still a chance Kaman (and another asset) could net the Clippers Andre Iguodala. The Rockets will not be their first choice to deal with, and the cost will be a lot higher.

    Lowry / Dragic
    Martin / Lee
    Budinger / Morris
    Scola / Patterson
    Kaman / Hayes

That 9-10 man rotation could win a few games in this league.

Very important point. The trade is one thing, but after that, we have to live with him. Paying $9 million a year for three years, for somebody that doesn't start - sorry, I was happier with Brad Miller at $5 or 6 million.

I'd sooner pay Nene $15 million a year than $9 million to Biedrins.

I really like Nene as well but I have some questions:

    - How much cap space will we have vs Denver and what kind of offer is it going to take to lure him away? I understand that the new CBA will dictate a lot of things but it would be useful to see where we stand today assuming that it won't be too different at least for next year.

    - Is Nene thinking about leaving? I heard that his wife is from there or something. I know he felt slighted in the whole Anthony debacle. Can Morey convince him that a lineup of Nene/Scola/SF/Martin/Lowry is better than Denver's lineup?

    - Is he the right fit for us? In my opinion, he is the K-mart of big men in that he is severely underrated and uber efficient. The question of his rebounding and rim deterrence is questionable if we're thinking of championship caliber pieces. He is also PF/C rather than traditional C.

Rox can offer Nene too little to trump Nugs. Nene will not be a Rock. Ditto for MGasol or DeA/J.

Kaman could be a Rock in a three-way deal.

Or Kaman could be an amnesty 'casualty'.

If Knixies not in play for Dalaembert (as per Berman in today's NYPost) then only Heat might be more likely for him. Is that good?

I thing the important takeaway from these articles are....
    1) Rockets tried to get Biedrins
    2) apparently we were pretty close around draft time
    3) Rockets continue to talk to GS about him
    4) fundamentally GS wants to get rid of him

At the end of the day a willing buyer and a willing seller will usually get together. Good or bad, I think we are getting him.

IMHO Battier's trade was an up-yours to RA re: playing time. It sealed the no-new-contract to continue coaching.

There was nothing wrong in trading Battier,DM traded him for the wrong guy. We needed a big more than Battier,Thabeet just happens to be no good.
