No doubt! What a great match. Too bad we couldn't pull it out.

If there weren't a lot of interest in soccer in the States before, there will be now after that match. The popularity of the sport will continue to grow year after year. It'll be interesting to see how well we fare versus the world competition in the next coming years.

btw... that goal by Dos Santos was just sick!!!

I can explain since I was born here and I'm a DIE hard Mexico National soccer fan. I think most of us (2nd generation) Mexican-Americans grew up what our dads, uncles and other family grew up rooting for. Soccer is such a big deal to Mexicans that it's part of life. I remember visiting summers in Mexico while in middle school, and when Mexico was on TV for a match, the city looked like a ghost town because everyone was home watching the game.

I too have wondered why I can't root for the US and the answer is that I'm just not as passionate about the team. I never invested time and emotion like I did with the Mexican team growing up. It's like if I moved to Orlando, for the rest of my life and tried to become a Magic fan. It would never happen, I grew up and will die a Rocket fan.

I just get tired of people like you trying to tell others what they can and can't post.....or saying...GTFO...like it matters....I mean honestly.

If you don't like the post, just ignore it.....some of you are too silly for words.

Agree completely. You have to imagine that Timothy Chandler, as inexperienced as he is, would have been a much more valuable roster spot than Bornstein. I can't see Chandler, a product of the German youth system, being out of position that badly and being fine with ball-watching Dos Santos.

As exciting as that game was, both teams defenses were beyond horrible, and probably why neither of them are any threat on a World Cup level.

Being able to score the ball is only half of the equation, too many easy chances were given by both teams, IMO.

Well this is funny... you called me sensitive because of my reaction to your comments and now you're telling me you're tired of people telling you to GTFO after posting some nonsense and continuing to act like everything is cool? GTFO

For the sake of not continuing to derail this thread and Mexico's celebration of the Gold Cup, this will be my last post in this thread.

I have a question for those who root for Mexico National Football team then.

Do you also root for Team USA Basketball team?

I was born in Mexico but have lived in Houston all my life. I root for Mexico during international play and I root for the USA basketball team? Can I not choose who to root for regardless of where I'm from? I'm not from Chicago but I sure as hell was rooting for them during the NBA playoffs. This is all entertainment and people should stop getting worked up over who everyone else cheers for like its some sort of racist debate. There is nothing wrong with people cheering for the country from which they're from. By no means are they belittling the country in which they live in by doing so.

    It was just a question.

Just seems kinda bandwagonish to root for the Mexico Soccer team and the USA Basketball team.

Nothing wrong with cheering for Mexico and living in USA. But it is kinda bandwagony to support Mexico soccer team when it is playing against USA then turn around and support USA basketball when it plays against Mexico.

I'm not saying you are belittling your country or i'm not even angry about it.

    Gentlemen!!!

Let me explain to you why the US lost...its rather simple: 2 reasons...

    1. The US just doesnt match up talent wise to Mexico... that much was apparent to anyone watching the game impartially. Sorry to say, but guys like Dempsey, Donovan, Altidore (DNP) etc are second tier players....They aren't Manchester U, Barcelona etc material...at best they are Newcastle, Sheffield United material!!!

    2. Coach Bradley was disappointing with his game calling. Somehow the US was extremely lethargic with their play (somehow the midfield would just sit on the ball rather than do what the mexicans were doing which was quick forward passes)! The american midfield was slowing down the game... Too many backward passes. The coach needed to energize, motivate the players to play full steam... more possession and less long balls.

During my childhood, my father took me to dozens and dozens of Mexico games, just as his father did. I developed appreciation for the team and their passion of the game. It's never been about wanting the U.S. to lose. I support them in every way; I just tend to give Mexico more favoritism since I grew up watching them.

Man, same crap different year -- this team is dead in the water and we have zero elite talent coming up.
