Morris is destined to be Bud's back-up ... no more.

Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Ron Artest, Zach Randolph, David West, Josh Smith, Al Jefferson, Danny Granger. Sure, some of these guys were/are more dominant in what they do that others, but I think a 14th pick definitely CAN be a top-level player if they work hard and develop well. I just hope Morris has the drive and talent to do it.

Your post is concise but it is very important point. It is because GM's overvalued athleticism and size (Morris is a big s/f, btw), that guys like Stromile Swift and Thabeet can be drafted that high.

I think this is a good pick at 14, I thought we really needed a SF.
Our biggest problems are on the defensive end and rebounding.
We can acquire scorers and if they are elite that really gives us something to build around but to really get back in the title hunt we need to vastly improve our interior defense,.

We do not protect the rim very well, need an enforcer shot blocker and rebounder.

We have average defense at the 2,3,4, and 5. our best defender is Lowery and Chuch Hayes.

Hayes does not intimidate defensively he agitates.

Lowery is tough and quick enough to stay in front of the elite PG's

We need to get much tougher in the 1/2 court on defense and rebound better to limit opponent possessions and give ourselves more interior scoring.

The rest depends upon finding elite scorers who can finish games and carry the load.

KM is a good scorer. Lowery shouldn't have that roll, and Morris may be another solid scoring option.

The kind of players we have now could put us in position to get one superstar to complete the team or we could have enough very good players to compete like the Pistons who won the title with defense and several very good scorers.

I like the pick, if he starts and upgrades the 3, with better defense we could get into the playoffs next time there is a season.

Still being patient waiting for our next championship season, '95 seems like a long time ago.

Budinger is an excellent back up player. Second guy off the bench on any team!

^I agree completely, I think Patterson has shown already that he has the drive to develop. I'm really looking forward to seeing how his career pans out :).

Yeah people always say things about the 14th pick in a draft and seem to forget the homerun Morey scored in last years draft with the 14th pick. In the running for ROY at one point.;)

HAHA.If you have seen the draft it is flat out funny that someone would drop Leonard(a specialist)/Kemba (undersized but with huge upside) so low and raise the stock of Tristan Thompson
Valencianus and Kanter are international players so they need more time to develop. Usually if there are 4 international guys among the best 8 one has to question....especially that when those 4 are all post players
Big men especially abroad have a higher bust potential

Hell we don't even know what Irving, Knight ...these guys can really do at the NBA level
With this said, I think Morris is one of the few guys that are complete players on the offensive and defensive side, NBA ready and that can create his own shot.
He still has room to grow.

I am not as overly excited as the OP is but I can see why he is so high on this kid.
He is going to be a special player with the potential to become that borderline first, or even first option on the team, a second tier FRANCHISE player is a stretch though.

A slightly more solid all around version of Budinger? Say if Budinger had size, a little more defense, toughness, rebounding, and post up moves? Less of a three point shot though? Something to think about during the lockout.

If this guy can get his mid-range game to be automatic like many of the deadly 3s in the league, he'll be very successful... How good will that pull up jumper be??

A more solid all around version of Budinger with size, defense, toughness, rebounding, and post up moves would be nothing like the actual Budinger. So in that sense, yes I completely agree.

Yeah and kobe is a more solid all around version of Kevin Martin, with more defense, size, toughness, rebounding, and post moves. And yes, less of a three point shot.

David Thorpe believes it will be between 38-42 %.
This has to be addressed again. I have a feeling that you had Lowry etched into the backup role as well.

Morris is a lottery pick and will become the starter. Patterson would be our starter if it wasn't for Scola. Morris doesn't have the same caliber of competition to deal with at the SF position.
