I feel a LOT different at this point than last summer. I wasn't optimistic at all last summer. I knew it would be only a matter of time before Yao went down. People like DD thought we were contenders. I felt that was silly. Now, the same people are saying to let go of Hayes bc we aren't close to contending This draft has changed that. Get a Tyson Chandler type and we're set. Aka DeAndre Jordan, Marc Gasol, or Dalembert. Also, re-sign Chuck Hayes.
No, let's get it right,...I said....IF YAO WAS HEALTHY......and that they had no choice but to play that out because of his contract. I do want to sign Yao again though...lol.....he is now the definition of a low risk high reward type of player. DD
Most definitely. If all of this off season maneuvering translates into WINS, then you have something real to cheer about. If not, then it's nothing but more red koolaid flavored BS coming from the Rockets' organization.
But we all knew it was only a matter of time before he would get injured hence posters like MaxMax and I were saying that we were definitely not contenders. My point is that this is Morey's best draft to date. I couldn't be any happier. I didn't feel this way last summer.
If anything at all, the biggest corner we've turned with this draft is team attitude. It seems to me that much of the positive sentiment regarding the new guys' cockiness is a kind of backlash against the failure of a team with the philosophy of guys like Yao and Battier carrying themselves in a quiet, humble way. We used to parade that sort of behavior as the right way to play, even though it didn't do us any favors with the sensationalistic media types. Guys like Scola and Hayes still set the tone, but you have to wonder after they're gone what kind of team it'll be. We've been without real flash since T-Mac began his meteoric fall from the upper-echelon (4 years ago now?), so hearing these brash young guys fielding questions in a more aggressive way is refreshing. You just assume and take it for granted that they can back it up. Right now it's just talk. Coach was right on.
lol....this is what you call every player. He hasn't really played basketball since 2009, and gotten older and crappier. The odds are very high that he will never play again, or will only play for a short time, and even if he does, all of his flaws (immobility, conditioning etc) will probably be magnified like never before which effectively limits your teams options. In the real world, that is the definition high risk, questionable reward player.
great post! ya and im really liking the thing about are draft picks, and how kevin mchale can be a rudy t type of coach. the part i dont like is about yao ming coming back. i think we have given him waaaaay too many chances. we should re sign chuck and get a center in free agency like maybe deandre jordan , or nene. then IMO we can be a very good team
hope we can land a starting Center before the lockout...so we can be confident goin next season that this team can be competitive...
Hey I was on that same wagon DD. If yao stayed healthy we would have made the playoffs. And IMO with Yao we were better than Memphis. SO that makes us contenders. Although I would say Dallas was the one team we didnot match up well against so no meeting with the heat with Yao but still it would have been a good ride. People forget Yao was starting to look really good before he went down. And who knows if he will ever look that good again and then the key is does he just have a number of games in him before he goes down or can he make till the end one year. Most people would bet the former and that is hard to argue against but the Doctors are saying this injury can be recovered from and I see it as different than anything before in that it was kind of a freak accident. Anyway let's wait and see. We are not anything close to a contender without Yao with Yao we have a shot. Two years in a row we were the last man knocked out. And I think we are a much better team right now than both of those teams. If yao comes back we will even be better and if he doesn't we are just a great center away from competing. And Dwight howard is always a long shot.
Is this thread serious? I have a lot of hope/expectations for these guys, but these gotta produce first. We haven't turned any corner.
Great comparison but can he beat out TWill and Cbud for a roster spot. But I do see a trade coming for a Center so maybe he wont have to fight for a roster spot.
Good post. We are one shot blocking / rebounding demon from being very competitive. Sure, the team overall is not perfect, but which team is? We have the best role players in the league, stacked 2-deep at every position, EXCEPT center. I am optimistic about next year. Virtually all the core players from the 43-win team from last year will be back. In addition, we added height to our roster.
I think they wanted Motiejunas more than Marcus Morris, but they wanted a relatively sure thing in the bank before taking a risky pick. Donatas and Marcus both have star potential, but I think that Donatas has more. I am pretty excited about the Rox future. If they can trade some of their assets for a Tyson Chandler, and McHale turns out to be a pretty good coach, I think they can definitely compete this season (if we actually have a season, that is).
After reading this thread I find myself thinking "And I thought I was drinking Morey's Kool-Aid". We've turned the corner? Look, I'm hopeful that Morris and Montiejunas will be productive players in the NBA - but unless they're both, at the least, borderline All-Stars, we'll be nowhere near contending with this squad. And I don't think Morey would dare project either of them to be that good - much less both. Until we acquire a real star talent, we haven't even seen the corner. Much less turned it.
2 me it seems da draft went completey how morey hoped it would 4 m-mo 2 drop 2 14 seriously 14! Den 4 d-mo 2 drop 2 20 seriously 20! den we trade 4 him from K-macs old team was jus wonderful this could b and I think will b da draft dat changed r future
