This reminds me of : "Ray Lewis with a basketball 2.0"

I thought Morey aimed for high-character guys?

I have to agree with you. The NBA can be a very humbling experience for rookies. I would rather have rookies with confidence, they will find their way and McHale will make sure of it. I'm stoked that the rockets are adding to their frontline. The future could be bright with an eventual frontline of D-Mo-Thabeet at the 5, Patterson-Hill-Morris at the 4 and Morris-Budinger at the 3 as possible frontline.

Honestly though, what do you expect them to say? Something like this?

Monte: "I look up to David Andersen. I may be 7 foot tall, but I think my job is to shoot jumpers all day and stay away from the paint because there are scary black guys in there. And I mostly play for money. My hero is Matt Maloney, because that guy's still getting paid ten years later."

Morris: "I'll never be a star. Some people compare me to Corliss Williamson, but that's a lot to handle. If I can even be half as good as Corliss, I'll be happy and just take my 10mpg for 10 years. Develop into a player like Melo? Or Granger? I can't even imagine being a player like that. That's just too much for me to handle. I'm just a rookie you know."

It's natural for people to compare themselves to players they love and respect. It doesn't mean what they truly believe about themselves. It's just an optimistic projection.

Just like how every mock draft will have the "player similar to" for each prospect. When most prospects will never come close to reaching that player.

Yup. D-Mo and M-Mo are both 5 yrs younger then their counter parts. So by the time both of these young guys start entering their primes, Melo and Howard will be exiting theirs.

What is the big deal? I rather wait and see if he can back up his words, at least he is not going into the league timid. He may be brought down a notch during the season but I believe with his mind set and attitude it will help him adjust quickly to the league.

“We thought Marcus was one of the top players in the draft, skilled at both ends,” said Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey. “He can play the four or the power three and can defend two positions. We are really excited that he made it to us at 14.”

    That's good for me

So now we make these huge assumptions about their mentality from 2 little quotes during a press conference? Are you sure you're not JCDenton?

You gotta like this coach. Seems to be a totally differently style from JVG and Adelman.

Yep they complain that the Rockets only go after certain types of players. We draft some guys with confidence, trash talking mentality and they still complain.

I love this type of mentality. Vernon Maxwell had it. Mario Elie had it. It would be nice for it to rub off on players like Kevin Martin. Yes I want Martin to talk ish so he's more assertive esp late in games.

Btw, I hated Marcus Morris for this very reason in college. I love it now!!

Yep. Me too. I miss the Mario Elie and Vernon Maxwell types. Thats what is missing off the Rockets.

I think he was just talking about the "type" of player he is, not even an optimistic projection.

Now, from watching him play, not youtube highlights, I could see that too. But for those who haven't seen him play, aside from youtube highlights, they might find this interesting:

    <iframe width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ebP9D6SMzfM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

That was his brother Markieff Morris working out. What I found interesting was at the end of it, he compared himself to Robert Horry, and called himself a "role player".

    These are twins, remember.

So that means either there is one incredibly humble and realistic brother, along with the other who is a cocky ass with a big head before his first NBA game

    OR

They are both self-aware and know exactly what their own strengths and weaknesses are, and what type of game they possess.

I am pretty sure the second one is more likely.

He is right though. His game if you watch it reminds you of Carmelo Anthony. Probably not as high volume a shooter and ballhog and without perhaps the range of Carmelo? It does if you watch the video remind you of Carmelo Anthonys shots. He posts you up and hits off dribble pull ups. He hits the same kind of layups and put backs. His style is similar. "Style" Of course his defense is hopefully better.

Exactly, Ray Lewis wasn't good enough to play in the NBA, either.

I think you guys are blowing this way out of proportion.

It's good to have a sense of humor, and not be shy when you're being intro'd at a press conference.

At the very least, we know Motie and Morris aren't a couple of stiffs; good to see them laugh it up.

Plus, there was a Motie video posted in the first page of the Dish too (as I am typing this.)

Morris might have just been adding to the humor Motie brought.

Since when did we take like 7 words and judge people's entire characters off of it? Suddenly the Rockets are cocky bastards with attitude problems? Jesus, we have a buch of ****ing t_mac1's posting now.

C'mon the guy simply made a joke. He's not dissing anyone, he's not saying he's the next Melo. He even said in the Jason Friedman interview that he was joking around. D-Mo did the same thing.

I love the trash talking in the NBA, although this was just a joke he knows Melo.

I think it's pretty cute how everyone on the Knicks boards are bashing him for it and are saying things like ''he just guaranteed his team a 40 point blowout'' Lol.
