It seems everybody's excited about our new guy. It's been awhile since we've had a scorer at the SF position, so I can understand the optimism. He has good size, a nice set of skills, and some impressive ball-handling for a guy his size. Hopefully he turns out to be an all-star.

Here's a video I don't think everybody has seen - apologies if it has been posted in one of the many Morris threads. I checked the last page of Cxbby's coronation thread and didn't see this video in there. So here it is! Enjoy.

Is it just me or does he travel with the ball when he catches it in the last 30 sec of the video

i wish the rookies that busted their ass off in pre draft workouts to get drafted high would continue that work at the next level. i think mar-mor will, so i have officially drank the kool-aid on him.

That's a great video. thanks! He looks like be handles the ball better than I thought which is great. He is 6'9" but moves around like a 6'6" guy. I guess it comes down to lateral quickness defensively, but I don't see how this guy can't play SF in the league. Looks like has has solid moves and a great work ethic.

Could Morris be a Danny Granger type player for us?

It's definitely promising. Some of his offensive moves seemed a bit slower than I'd like if he wants to be a 3 but he has way more range than I thought and as you mentioned his handles looked a lot better than I had predicted.

I think losing 10 pounds would really help Marcus' transition to SF on both ends of the floor. There's a lot of power in his game that might not translate as a PF. Jared Dudley, who looked positively chubby at BC, has lost a ton weight and now capably plays SF full-time.

I've been watching some clips of Morris and his biggest weakness seems to be his first step. At most, he gains a little less than half a step on his defender, at which point a second move is necessitated, usually a spin move or a mini cross to get a bit more separation. It usually ends in a semi-contested floater/half hook, a fadeaway, or a semi-contested short jumper.

If he wants to be a premier scorer at the SF position, that's one area he should definitely improve on. Catching the defense with that first step, especially off a pass where the defense is shifting, generates a lot of opportunities not just for himself but for his teammates. Here's to hoping!

In the video when he catches the ball in the all of the catch and shoot drills, he regularly drops it down from his belly button to his waste line before he begins to raise it up to shoot it. This wasted motion will need to be eliminated to play against 3s in the NBA.

He does appear to shoot it well from outside though, and I am intrigued by his physical style of play as a 3 versus what we already have with Kevin Martin who is more of a speedster.

    You mean like this guy?

    Ray Allen Shooting
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IPuD8bGdts

I am in no way comparing his shooting to Ray Allen. Just showing how arguably the most prolific shooter ever does the same thing. He is simply just loading up his shot when he drops it down.

No way Vesely will be better than this guy in the NBA. He will piss a lot of GMs off (except DM, who should be smiling to himself right now).

That's not the uncommon in the NBA, especially with the swingmen. It's kind of their triple threat position, but leaning more towards driving to get the defender back on their heels before they instead rise to shoot. Granger and melo do it, i think lebron and gay do as well, even during catch and shoot.
