It seems to be the theme of the draft. We drafted players that are versatile blah blah blah. Look i like the players we drafted, i think they will be solid players but don't give me this nonsense about how these players playing multiple positions is some great asset. I'd rather have a beast that u can plug in at the 4 like a KG or Gasol, than some versatile guy that doesn't have a defined position and isn't that great in the first place. I could care less if a guy is versatile as long as he can step onto the court and play. I mean to play devils advocate we can say these guys are tweeners and that would be considered a bad thing. I think i heard the word versatile 15 times during the press conference today.

You're overeacting. They are versatile and it is an advantage for players and the team, but like you said they have to be able to play, period. I dont see why it matters what position they play or how many. They jsut need to play well.

By the way, both Gasol and KG can play 4 and 5 = VERSATILE.

I guess a better example would be Dwight Howard or Yao Ming.

It's strange that you argue against the word versatile, when it is used so much to describe Gasol's ability to play at PF and C because of his ability to step out for a shot. Garnett is regarded as one of the most versatile and best defensive hybrid forwards in the NBA that can guard SF, PF, and Cs. He could play in the low post or the high post. His name is always mentioned as one of the most versatile guys in the league.

Honorable mention in the top 10 most versatile players in Dime Mag. Kevin Garnett.

I do agree that it got somewhat annoying to hear the word "versatile" so much, but let's be honest, that word best describes each player the Rockets drafted so I can understand why they used it so much.

Personally, I really like the idea of adding these types of players to the team. It really helps add a lot of flexibility to the different types of lineups they can throw out there.

With that being said, I still would have liked to see Morey draft Kawhi Leonard, that way we have a guy you can point to and say "that guy is going to be our SF", but I can see why they went with Morris. The thought of him using his great post up game on smaller SFs is enticing. It'll be interesting to see what he can do.

Stop looking as versatility as a bad thing. It's all over the league, within superstars, stars, role players, bench guys, etc...Again, it comes down to their talent and not if they play one or two positions. The only time it's a problem is when they're forced to be versatile and they arent, but I dont think this is the case here.

You call it versatile, yet one can call it a player that doesn't have the size to play the 4, and doesn't have the ball-handling skills to play the 3. What do you call a player like this ? Versatile or tweener ? Get the drift........

It means you can be a top or a bottom.

No but, i'm tired of it too. Just give me a straight up 3 or straight pg. Tired of this combo guard crap and everything else.

Yea i'd rather have a guy that has a defined position yet can also play another position such as a KG or a Gasol. The guys we have in my opinion do not have a defined position because they don't have all the skill sets to play that 1 specific position so we justify it by calling them versatile.

In that case, you call the player a tweener... but I don't think that describes anybody the Rockets picked.

Look, Marcus Morris was forced into the 4-spot at Kansas. He came in and was one of their biggest players, so they put him there. Does this mean he doesn't possess the ball-handling skills to play the 3? No it doesn't. He can handle the ball well, and he can play the 3 offensively.

The big question mark with him is whether or not he's quick enough to guard the 3-spot, and that definitely remains to be seen.
