You ever think your personal viewpoint might be clouding the issue?

I think your security blanket crap is a big pile O BS. Chuck Hayes didn't need anyone to trade away somebody so he could play. He laced em up an went out and earned his playing time. Screw these lazy overpaid babies, if they don't have the nuts to go get theirs then they can pound sand and hit the bricks when their waste of space contracts are up.

I can't believe somebody would want to get rid of a guy who worked his ass off to earn a place on our team and GIVE time to some kid who has a talent and God given ability that any one of us would do anything to have but was too F'n lazy to use it.

Don't try to tell me that Hill or Thabeet couldn't take Chuck's playing time if they worked their butts off. Let em earn theirs or let em go but don't act like it would be doing the Rockets a favor getting rid of Chuck Hayes.

Chuck is very underrated. One of the league's best high post defenders, a good rebounder, a hustler, very basketball intellegent. He's also improved his game drastically over the last two years especially in ft%, passing ability, and finishing around the basket. I say sign him to the vet min and start him until ppat's ready.

At the moment, the Rockets are looking at 17 contracts, if you count Yao and Hayes and the draftees as "signed." Looking at the roster, the two odd men out at the moment, IMO, are Hayes and DeMarre Carroll or the second round pick. We have a plethora of PFs, so Hayes is probably the odd man out there.

How many triple doubles has DeAndre Jordan had? Anybody know?

Chuck Hayes is a Rocket, whoever he signs with.

LOL! Chuck isn't hindering anyone's development. If they really had talent they will be in the rotation. We're not talking about a franchise player here. We're talking about Chuck Hayes. Cleveland has to trade Baron Davis, because Irving will be the clear star of that team and Davis is still very good. It will be very difficult for a rookie to surpass Davis in skill. The task is much easier when Chuck Hayes is the guy to surpass. All Thabeet has to do is focus on defense and dunk the ball and he would start over Hayes, but unfortunately he's doesn't have the ability to do that yet. You don't need game experience to learn how to play defense. Chances are...Chuck will also help Thabeet in that regard, so letting Chuck go is moot.

Scola should be the person to move. None of the forwards are as good as he is, and it's likely they won't be anytime soon. My point is, you can't put one of your best offensive players on the bench, especially if he is also a respected veteran like Scola. Similar to when Adelman wouldn't allow Finch on his staff, because he respected his assistants. I'm not saying its the same situation, but in both cases you have to respect your top guns.

Hayes is a role player that we do not have to let go, because he's willing and able to come off the bench and play his butt off. Why let go of a player that can help your team win games in favor of players that may never pan out. To this day, we still don't have a legit starting center and we still need the Chuckwagon, but when the time comes I would bet you that he will graciously step down and help the new starting center. If Hayes wants to leave for a Championship team, then you let him go. Until then, I would never let go of Chuck Hayes.

I love Chuck Hayes. He's earned my respect and should have all of our respect. At this point, he's one of my all-time favorite Rocket role players. Hell, were it not for memories like Elie's Kiss of Death, he might be my all-time favorite.

And as for what DD said - I ALMOST agree with him. But I don't EVER want to see Chuck go unless it's absolutely necessary to acquire the star we need to rebuild around (and as much as I love Chuck, I really can't imagine a scenario in which a rival GM is like "INCLUDE CHUCK HAYES OR NO DEAL!".

Here is why - With Battier gone, Yao possibly retiring, and Scola likely on the block - it's more important than ever to have guys like Hayes and Lowry to show these younger players how to work. And Chuck is about the best role model you can have for your younger players. He's even better than Battier in that he wasn't even drafted. He is WAY too short for his position. They also say he's not athletic enough. He's too slow. He has no offensive game. And yet year in and year out he demonstrates what hard work and determination can accomplish. I LOVE him as our team captain as we rebuild. LOVE HIM in that role. I literally can't think of anybody that fits the role better.

    Fair enough.

I think Chuck Hayes is a nice luxury defensive role player, and while I would like him on the Rockets, I would like him to get a shot at winning something substantial in his career, he should go somewhere else as it will not be happening here for a while...

Chuck is a good player. If Morris transitions to the three and Motie becomes a 5, Hayes will be needed as a 4. I think Scola is traded in a package for a starting SF or starting center.

That's ideal...then hopefully sign a center. I think Montejunas, Patterson, and Morris can be fun to watch together. Not too bad a lineup and we can have Patterson guard the more physical player.

Chuck Hayes is exactly the kind of affordable veteran you WANT around developing players. A guy who was an undrafted rookie signed to a 10-day contract who beat out all comers for the last however many years based on hard work. The guy came in with one skill: rebounding, and worked himself into an amazing defender, an adequate free throw shooter, and now even a scoring threat in the Adelman offense. He added something to his game every year, and some people want him gone so they can watch Donuts plays center. Because Donuts could learn nothing from Chuck Hayes.

Because these geniuses like DD think that giving Thabeet playing time will turn him into Mutumbo.

Oh and they like losing (tanking) and know that without Hayes this team will be awful.

Great role player but he shouldn't be a starter. Unless we move him to the 4 and he magically develops a consistent 15-18 ft jump shot or grows 4 inches taller. He'd be best off as a 6th to 7th man on a contending team. But we'll never be a championship team with a starting C/PF that's 6'6" and doesn't help space the floor.

I dont think he is saying that at all.

Its just that Hayes has hit his ceiling. He isnt getting better than he is. And while thats very good on the defensive end, the direction of the team is towards more 2 -way and taller players. And the only way to get younfgplayers better is to play them. And any minutes Chuck gets hampers that process.

DD has such respect for the guy, as I do, that he wants Hayes to land somewhere that allows him to prosper.

Chuck is a a significant part of the Rocket's machine, a significant role player. I hope he will be back!
For sure no team working towards a championship will be starting our Chuck as their starting Center.:p

Ok first off, he's gotten markedly better every single season he's been in the NBA. Everything goes against what you're saying about his ceiling.

Secondly, he is a two-way player. The 4th best offensive team in the league doesn't need Chuck Hayes to score 20 ppg and we are as good as we are because he knows his role offensively and plays it to perfection. This is evidenced by the Rockets having the 6th best starting lineup in the NBA behind LA, Boston, Dallas, SA, Memphis.

We do need a center, however, so that everything doesn't go to hell when Chuck leaves the floor.

We will just have to disagree on some of this. But the main thing is, the Rockets need a rim protector / shot blocker and Hayes is never going to be either of those.

While Hayes is outstanding at some aspects of his game, he weaknesses get exposed regularly. If we ship Scola & Hill out, I could see him playing the 4 as a reserve. But no matter how much we love Hayes, a 6'6" starting center is not a long term recipe for success at the highest levels.

But not every team has that sort of need in spades like the Rockets do. So his services will be put to good use, somewhere.

I can't believe you people bad talkin Hustlin' Hayes.I wish we had 2 Chuck Hayes.
If the rest of the team played as hard as Hayes we would probably make the cover of Sports Illustrated. Oh wait, we don't even get that when we win the Finals. The Rockets get no respect & neither does Hustlin' Hayes.

    We MUST re-sign Chuck Hayes.

And if Yao can walk, I want him back, too. Sadly, the Rockets apparently do not.
