I have been looking at the Houston Point Guard position and I think it's looking like a position of strength. Lowry, Dragic, Flynn, Lull, and Lee It's official Lowry has come into his own - the Rockets had to move Aaron Brooks after almost being anointed the point guard of the future the season before. Dragic came and played his butt off in 22 games. He needed a change of scenery from Phoenix. Rockets never lost a beat with Dragic substituting for Lowry. Now the Rockets get Jonny Flynn. Maybe the best of the class of 2009 draft pick assets on the Rockets roster Flynn has been the only one to have consistent success in the NBA. He missed the first quarter of 2010 and lost his spot to Luke Ridnour. And to be fair, Luke shot 46% and 41% from the 3 point. I think that Flynn is quite intriguing. He's a 6 foot point guard. But he does weigh 195 lbs. He's apparently as quick as Aaron Brooks. That says, he doesn't get muscled by bigger point guards. Plus his 2009 season was not too shabby 13.5 pts and 4.5 assists for a rookie campaign. And to top it off, Lee is quite capable of bringing the ball up the court too... Without having an all-star, the Rockets are looking very good at the point guard spot. And Lull is playing his best basketball in the Spanish league. He could be a very good backup as soon as this season.
Flynn sucks. He is absolutely terrible, and I am convinced the Rockets don't have a major interest in him. He was thrown in as filler to make the salaries match for Donatas, and also from a "heck, why not?" standpoint. Maybe he can rejuvenate himself here because the triangle didn't help, but Flynn is nowhere even remotely near Dragic or Lowry. Heck, if Llull came over here tomorrow, I'd have him ahead of Flynn in my rotation.
The worst team in the NBA thrown him away in a trash bucket just two years after the day when they selected him in a high lottery and they thrown him for reason. How the hell can he be good?
For those who know, why so down on Flynn? It appears that he had a solid rookie campaign and a sub-par injury prone soft-more season.
Bad defender, bad decision-maker, not a solid shooter, lack of leadership, low basketball IQ, ball hog, bad passer, turnover prone Is it enough?
I bet Flynn is a better PG than Brad Miller. Hopefully Flynn will provide more value to the Rockets than Mill.
Flynn will find a way to contribute or he'll get moved. Morey has a knack for getting rid of guys he doesn't want anymore. His "mistakes" don't hang around.
No. To be blunt, there is nothing he is good at. Crappy scorer, crappy shooter, crappy pentrator, short, is possibly even worse than AB on defense, mediocre passer, heck he's not even a great dribbler. I don't mind having him for what was basically free, but there is a much , much better chance that Thabeet becomes a significant part of the Rockets rotation instead of Flynn. That is how little I value him.
Flynn's a proven starter, but Dragic's near/ triple double game/s wouldn't have gone unnoticed. That kind of performance helped Sura get his Rockets contract. Ridnour has been playing like Steve Nash-lite the last couple of seasons. The Bucks made the mistake of not keeping him on their bench and last season was the result.
he was recovering from an injury last season. don't think you can fairly say he sucks. lowry was traded from the grizzlies and they were terrible then as well if i remember correctly.
I'm on Flynn's side. He has "true" point guard upside. Don't know much about Sergio Llulzsec. Would have rather traded our lotto for Hill if we're that into PG's still.
You guys remember Aaron Brooks? Small scoring point guard, used to play for us, was starting until injured, and then completely sucked ass, continued to suck ass, and then we got that much better by trading him? Flynn was even worse than THAT Aaron. And Aaron has had moments in the past where he's shown that he can truly be a legit PG. Flynn hasn't. Trust me, if we have people whining about why Flynn isn't playing after the first seven or so games in the season, I am going to scream.
