It would of been nice to see some defensive skills in the vids.

If he has bumped his weight to 240 (and growing), I would give this kid the JVG treatment that Yao got: plant him down low and work on his inside game scoring/defending/rebounding.

With Patterson and Morris at the forwards this could be a nice front line.

If McHale can squeeze 10-15 minutes of production out of Thabeet an even bigger bonus.

is he expected to play with the Rockets in the upcoming season or is he staying in Europe? Or is that yet to be determined?

Wingspan is supposedly 6'11". Not great, but I would also say his shoulders are on the narrow end of the spectrum, which probably robs him of a couple of inches. Standing reach may be more encouraging, but I can't find it anywhere.

I LOVE this pick, and think that a left handed post player like him is going to have a big advantage.

Being left handed is huge, players will overplay him to the wrong side at crucial moments.

I don't think that means what you think it means.

I got to agree with DD on this one. Great great pickup. Might not work out, but if the kid has any semblance of a work ethic, his OFFENSIVE game reminds me of a mix between the 3 successful tall white Euro's - Pau, Dirk and Bargnani. His post game is so much more fluid and advanced than I previously thought. Yes, the video posted is one on none in a workout, but we've seen enough comparable stuff by now to know that even in that setting, his fluidity and moves seem advanced.

I think if he played starters minutes can we expect at least 8 boards a night out of him? Who knows, but given his fluidity and size, got to think yes. Might not be best defender, but if he can understand the team defense concept and learn just to be a large in the middle, that will be something we don't have.

This is why it all came down to passion and desire with regards to his draft positioning. He's literally got all the tools. Great size. Clearly able to bulk up a bit, as he already has. Great fluidity. Solid shot. Strong post moves. Capable, if not great, rebounder and defender. But without the motivation it's Brad Miller 2.0. With the motivation, it's Dirk-Paul combo, which is a great.

I hope Morey got real comfortable understanding if he really has a desire to be great. That said, Brad Miller 2.0, in his prime, was good, too.

Surprised you didn't mention his passing, which is incredible for his size.

I'm sure this has been answered already but I haven't read anything about it, is he coming over this year or is he staying in Europe?

His passing especially for a 7 footer is at an elite level, he's a natural at it. Adelman would have loved this guy.

I read somewhere he's got a 6'11" wingspan, which is small for a 7 footer.

I know where you got that from .. 'NBADraft.net'.

He was measured during the Nike Hoop Summit in 2009. But at the time of the measurement DM was still only 18 yrs old, the guy was still growing, so really, his actual wingspan would be around 7'1-7'3 range now.

Heck, even Demarcus Cousins, same age as DM, measured with a shade under 7'3 wingspan(7'2.75) at the 2009 Nike Hoop Summit, and then measured with a 7'6 wingspan at the NBA draft combine a year later.

Did they ever print his standing reach?
