I said before i didnt' buy the rebuilding angle...i wish Morey would have just came out and said it, might as well. Les has never wanted to go in that direction.

Wait I thought Drayton McLane Was selling the team?....oh wait.

Hope it turns out better then it did for the Astros. Different sport and the Rockets are younger but just never have liked this way of thinking..stuck in the middle.

That's a terrible directive by Alexander. If I was the owner I would tell Morey to tank hard next year.

    1) Lockout, some of most of the season might be lost anyway, what better time to stink it up and it wont' affect the bottom line as much as other years.

    2) Very talented and deep draft, even if you don't get the top pick you're still going to get a good talent.

What they say and what they do might be two different things.

6th youngest team in the NBA by minutes played. Doesn't really matter what your record is when you're so young.

Or we could steal someone else's pick with a great trade.

Regardless though, Les is following the path of Drayton McLane who refused to recognize the team needed to rebuild at least one season and now we're stuck with the worst team in baseball and our homegrown stars that replaced Bagwell and Biggio are playing elsewhere.

It does to them and their strategy. They want to bridge the gap between generations without going through the growing pains. I honestly don't remember the last champion to do something like that without already having a star in place.

To me, it's the same junk different year, lets stay a float until a superstar decides to play here. We'll play good enough to either contend or actually make the playoffs but have zero chance of making serious noise. Here is to a second round and out, once again until our white knight comes to save us and our assets.

By "every year" do you mean the last two years? Or are you saying that a team with Yao, TMac, Lowry, Landry, Scola, Mutumbo, Battier, AB, Hayes isn't a championship contender?

I feel Morey through the "its never been done" comment in to put the onus on Les. Les doesn't want to endure losing seasons, Morey is doing what he can.

Specifically, last two years. Problem with continuing down this path is that two years turns into five and five into seven before you know it. What if Dwight goes to LA, Paul to NY and DWill stays in Jersey...what then? Will be stuck around the 14-20 picks and no chance at an elite player.

Morey has never been able or had the ablity to move up into the top portion of any draft and certainly won't next year so what's left? We might have lucked out in getting such a high ceiling guy in Monti but that won't happen every year.

Ya, exactly what I was thinking. Take next year's half year as an on the job training year with McHale playing around with a "system" and trying different lineups - getting familiar with players, etc.

...honestly though, if Adelman couldn't get it done this past year with this roster, I can't imagine a relatively inexperienced McHale doing any better next year with mostly the same roster. I think a 13-16 pick is where we will be next year if we have a good year and likely with some bumps in the road due to a new coach and a hard working but over matched roster, we will probably be in the 9-13 range.

    Lol! Hahaha.
If we don't get a superstar or a franchise player we're never going to be a championship contender. Sorry Les but you can't have the best of both worlds.

Yes bc last night's draft was littered with franchise-caliber players

It'll be fun to revisit all of these threads when our players wreck shop.

Sure did. Good enough draft to where we have enough pieces to trade for Dwight (Scola, Martin?, Budinger, Hill) and be able to really compete.

Yeah it's pretty disappointing to hear how our GM is being constrained by Les. It's going to take an injury plagued season for us to hope to get a top lotto pick and that's not something I want to see happen to our players.

I agree.......in a way this was the first time he separated himself from Les. He kept insisting through the interview that it is easier to be bad and have high draft picks. I think if it was up to Morey he'd just tank like many of the fans want. Very interesting interview to say the least.
