Forget the 04 Pistons, the Rockets may look more like the 90s Pacers

    Donatas Motiejunas -> Rik Smits
    Patrick Patterson -> Dale Davis
    Marcus Morris -> Antonio Davis
    Kevin Martin -> Reggie Miller
    Kyle Lowry -> Mark Jackson

    Before KMart haters start piling on about Reggie being clutch, I'm not saying we're an exact copy of that Pacers team. After all, Lowry IMO is better than prime Mark Jackson if he continues to improve.

    Still, you have to admit the similarity. Two tough forwards, a finnesse center, sharpshooting SG, and a distributing PG.

    Mark Jackson is top 5 all time in asts. Not sure if I agree with you whe you say Lowry who has 1/2 of season being a starter is better than Jackson

    I'm guessing you were too young to actually see that pacers team. The Davis' were beasts. Morris and Patterson are probably better shooters, but the Davis' were much better on D. They were both very physical.

    Mark Jackson is not at all like Lowry. Jackson was slow, but in total control of the pace. He was an amazing passer. Lowry is an up temp guy who likes to run the break.

    Martin and Miller are pretty similar, but Miller was extremely clutch. Smits was a decent center. I won't give Motiejunas the benefit of the doubt until he has some playing time.

    So in summary Pacers > Rockets.

    I love PatPat, but he is no Dale Davis. Dale Davis was a warrior. I mean the guy could go toe-toe with Oakley, Thorpe, and Rodman without backing down. Not to mention he was essentially big/strong enough to play center. If Jordan Hill maxed out his frame and was implanted with Hayes brain & heart, that guy would be Dale Davis.

    Also, those Pacer had some great young role players/older players in their twilight who consistently contributed all the time. I mean just look at these names off the top of my head.

    Chris Mullin, Derrick McKey, Austin Croshere, Travis Best, Jalen Rose, Eddie Johnson, Ricky Pierce, H. Workman, Johnathon Bender, Al Harrington, Jeff Foster, Sam Perkins.

    Morey has been able to bring those some of those type of role players so far, but can he do it consistently for nearly 10 years?

    I remember loving that team that sadly could never get over the hump against the Bulls, Knicks, Nets, Pistons or Lakers. I would love for this team to be the 90's Pacers, even if they never win a title as a team. They are missing key pieces though.

    This looks even better. The next harlem globe trotters. This is the next dream team. Man these guys will win all 82 games and win 7 championships in a row.

    Flynn (Will win 5 finals MVP awards)
    T-Will ( will enter the hall of fame with most triple doubles ever)
    Bud (will go on win 9 consecutive 3 point comps and dunk contests)
    Hill ( 15 time all star, This guy is the next Chris Bosh you know)
    Thabeet ( Will go on win 10 DPOY awards)

    Donatats ( 6th Man of the century across multiple universes)

    Even Miami fans are envious of this lineup it looks so good. Why dont we hoist a championship parade too, lets do it tomorrow. Morey should get a tattoo of the trophy already.

    Yes people. I actually comparing these two teams in terms of performance, rather than "style". I actually believe all these Rockets players are just as good as their 90s Pacers counterpart. It has nothing to do with trying to optimistically "project" them. But I honestly believe these are all-star caliber players who will win us a title next year.

    Except for the fact that the 90's Pacers were good.

    That's a decent comparison, but Smits and Motiejunas are only similar in that they're 7 foot tall Euros.

    From what people are saying, Motiejunas is far more offensively gifted than Smits ever was.

    Especially away from the basket.

    How about the Milwaukee Bucks of the late 90's?

    Vin Baker -> Patrick Patterson (the versatile, mobile 4)
    Glenn Robinson -> Marcus Morris (high scoring 3?)
    Ray Allen -> Kevin Martin (efficient perimeter scoring)

    They were definitely better at their peak, but we have much more depth.

    People comparing Kevin Martin to Reggie Miller and Ray Allen makes me want to cry on the inside.

    Hey now, at least I said they (Allen, Robinson, Baker) were definitely better at their peak

    Then again, that team didn't really pan out so I don't know how much we would like to emulate them :p

    The more I look at this lineup, the better I feel.

    That is a seriously potent offense, and if Morris, Patterson, and Hayes can keep things from falling apart on the interior... we might just be able to start getting a top 6 seed on a regular basis again.

    It's still a superstar away from contending from a title, but it will be fun to watch and easy to root for.

    IF, and I know this is a huge IF, that frontline matures, I think we'd basically be a star PG away from contending. Someone the caliber of DWill/CP3 would instantly make it a title contender.

    The balance between bigger forwards and a more finesse center/pseudo-center IMO can work. Well, this is what McHale was brought in to do. If he can turn this trio into a formidable group, he'd have earned his paycheck.

    Problem is that team never won a championship. Do we just want to be mediocre?

    The Bulls were too tough. We don't have to worry about that in the West, IMO.
