This isn't true, Flynn just like Thabeet, Twill, and Hill are in their last guaranteed year this coming season. After that it's team options for all.

Perhaps Morey is trying to line up the salaries to expire at the same time for a run at Deron, Howard, or CP3? Those 4 equal about 14 million in expirings.

we would have to give up the #23 just to get out of millers contract. we probably could've got the #20 for #38 and a future first. so we basically got flynn for nothing!

the memphis first is lotto protected until it turns into 2 second rounders. not a big loss there.

good thinking. there might be a reason morey is targeting the 2009 draft.

If D. Motiejunas can even reach the level of Andrea Bargnani, I still consider that a win but I hope he reaches Dirks level, probably not

I just can't see why this trade is bad at all for Houston. We dump Miller, Parsons, Center that wasn't coming over anytime soon and a 2013 pick for Flynn and Mote.

This is a low risk/ high reward move and definitely worth doing.

    Draft Class of 2009...gotta collect'em all! :p

Knowing it's the Memphis pick, I'm officially very happy about this trade.

Just wish we could get that super-payoff trade we've been waiting for since last year....

DM really got the cream of the busts of the 2009 lottery class. And a lot of folks seem to be happy about it? I guess the culture of mediocrity has really set in among Rockets fans.

This draft by the Rockets is really a puzzle considering that they have been generally undersized all along. Another undersized forward and an unproven prospect in Donatas is not my idea of a "great draft".

The Rockets do not have a c and no amount of Morey spin will change the fortunes of the team in the coming years unless that blackhole is filled.

Ah yes. Because a grown man growing 4 inches is just like a young 20 yr old correcting his attitude issue.

I know quite a few NBA players who lacked maturity, but grew up and reached their potential in the pros.

I'm not sure I ever remember this one time there was a Rocket who was too short, but then he grew 4 inches and became perfectly sized? Care to remind me anyone who did this?

This trade was not about getting Flynn.

Oh and if you aren't satisfied with Donatas than what proven prospect would YOU have taken there?

looks like my proposed trade is becoming true now
Scola + Lowry + Hill for Pau Gasol

and then just trade Martin for Granger we'd be set:

    P. Gasol, Yao Ming, Thabeet
    Patterson, Morris, Motiejunas
    Granger, Budinger, Parsons
    C. Lee, T-Will
    Flynn, Dragic

Motiejunas/T.E./NY's pick can be be used to upgrade the PG

    what are looking for?

Morey is trying to find a potential impact player, diamond-in-the-rough. Its not easy, and you will have a lot of attempts not pan out. Once you find that player you build around him. If Morey doesn't see that player there, he tries to players most likely to last as good role players and trade pieces.

Until, Morey finds that impact player, there is no point in filling in holes on a borderline playoff team. This team right now is simply a holding ground until that player is found.

Another way of looking at it:

Morey has stockpiled players from the 2009 draft who still have potential, and more importantly, have expiring contracts. All that cap space might come in handy when pursuing a certain free-agent center next summer.

Is the minny trade a done deal?

It hasnt be announced on espn or nba.com so maybe morey has gotten another team involved?
