Well, think from the bulls' fans perspective when they saw the first deal; their reactions were probably the same. They highly value Asik, we highly value Lee. Both teams do not want to get raped.
If we do that deal with Chicago and we end up with asik and 4 first rounders this draft that is jus morey at his best in morey we trust
Morey wasn't proposing a fair trade to Chicago, he was basically using demand side modelling (same thing he did to NY), he asked himself, what will Chicago pay, tbh if Morey had been Chicago's GM, he would have taken his offer. In Finance, it's basically, we don't care how much it cost to make, we only care how much you're willing to pay for it. Why? Because they would have probably won an nba title if they had a decent defender with a nice shot at the 2. Look at who they were playing? Miami? Wade 6'4, Dallas? Terry 6'2, you need production at all 5 spots to beat Team Voltron.
I get his thinking, when you're not contending, you should never really downgrade, the now isn't that important (you might drop off short term for long term gain on a project or draft picks, but you should never actually flat out downgrade), if you're a genuine contender, you should be willing to lose out on overall talent to shore up a weakness and increase your performance in the now.
Seems like the rockets are giving away not gaining, unless there is something that has been overlooked at 28& 30 that could help the team down the lines that morey and team has scouted.
Only if he gets a chance to start, if we are rebuilding, then why keep KMart? By the time the team is a contender, he will be well past his prime. Flip him now while his value is high, clear the room for some of the younger players to get his playing time, and build through the draft. DD
This was my argument for trading scola at the beginning of the year. I stand by Patterson and Lee starting in the event nothing semi-major happens.
I doubt Lee resigns with us so trading him now makes sense. I think Lee for Asik is a fair trade since you are trading small for big. Bulls need Lee worse than they need Asik. Otherwise, we probably end up roling the dice and doing a sign-n-trade with the Heat or Bulls or whatever team he's interested in next year but I doubt you'd get someone like Asik.
Stop trying to trade martin DD, just because you think he is a "net zero" on the court does not mean that he is not in fact, a top 4-6 SG. If you look thorugh the rest of the leauge there are actually NO shooting guards that are available on the market that would be clear upgrades over Kev-mart(btw, monta ellis is NOT a better player). Although lee definitely deserves a starting gig, Kevin is here to stay.
