http://nbaplaybook.com/2011/06/20/overseas-scouting-report-ricky-rubio/ "The biggest problem that Ricky Rubio is going to have when he makes the transition to the NBA game is the lack of scoring ability, especially his poor shooting ability. Rubio can knock down an open shot, hitting 40.5% of unguarded catch and shoot jumpers, but in just about any other situation, he struggles with his shot. When he is guarded, Rubio shoots just 18.5% and when he is shooting off of the dribble, he is shooting just 23.5%. This inability to knock down shots off of the dribble will really hurt his pick and roll game in the pros. If Rubio can’t knock down a jumper (or at least be a threat to) coming off of a ball screen, teams will simply go under them, making it tough for Rubio to use his play making skills to create for his teammates. When Rubio settles for a jumper in pick and roll situations (which happens 54.4% of the time when he is looking to score off of ball screens), Rubio is shooting 20%: Even when Rubio tries to attack the rim, he struggles. When Rubio takes it to the basket in pick and roll situations he is shooting just 24.1% (in fact, overall when taking shots around the basket, Rubio is shooting just 38.4% and just 20% on runners): At the rim, Rubio’s biggest problem is that he plays below the rim. This allows defense to contest his lay-up attempts, bother him, and force him into misses." ____________________________________________________________ "The next Maravich." Anyone who watches the Rubio mix on youtube will know his PG abilities (court vision, passing, timing) is NOT overrated.
Same for anybody who watches an And-1 Mix on youtube with respect to Hot Sauce, the Professor, and other legends.
Looking at the video Commodore posted, looks like he's working on his ability to pull up off the pick and roll for a jump shot.
Great, do you not know what, "he's working on it," means? You nor I know what the work will turn into, but at least he's trying.
http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2011/06/report-twolves-attempted-to-bring-in-coach-k/ "The other miracle is turning Ricky Rubio into a first-rate NBA point guard. As he showed over the last two seasons in Spain, the T-Wolves’ No. 1 draft pick of 2009 can’t shoot consistently or beat people off the dribble. ’It’s unfortunate that Ricky Rubio is now going to be the face of that franchise, because he just isn’t good enough as a player,’ said one NBA head coach. ‘They’re doing that kid a great disservice.’” I guess this is one of those "NBA experts" that DD says thinks that Rubio will be "the next great NBA point guard."
I get the impression that's what he's known for, being a creator not a scorer. He shouldn't have to worry, with Love, Beasley, Johnson and Williams (I think the wolves will have to go small with Love-Beasley-Williams-Johnson-Rubio)

uh oh, with his ball handling skills this will open up his game. That said, its important he practice off the dribble shooting mroe than anything
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...w-wojnarowski_ricky_rubio_timberwolves_111911 Excellent read on Rubio
He won't shoot off the dribble in the first couple of seasons, so it's not a problem He will be a spot up guy, dude that will shoot only an open jumper.
Most of you are missing the point. He don't need a screen to get to the rim. He's got the handle to get by any defender one-on-one. I repeat, he doesn't need a screen to get to the rim. And then once he gets there and continues to tear holes in every defense, the whole defense has to collapse in to stop him. The video showing him working on the catch and shoot jumpers shows he can shoot if he gets his feet set. The other thing it shows is he makes it effortless, hardly getting his feet off the floor to get the shot off. That means he doesn't have to worry about losing his legs, because he doesn't use them to the extreme that most NBA players use them. The other thing the spot up jumper is going to do for him is force the defender to play up on him off the ball. This means that when he catches the pass, with the defender on his hip, he'll be able to get to the rim with ease. Don't forget who his NBA coach is. You are putting one of the brightest offensive coaching minds together with one of the brightest point guard minds. Rubio has creativity oozing out of every pore, enough to match Adelman. He's gonna be crazy sick. Do all the yacking you want. This kid is a prime time playa. He's going to be an NBA superstar when the NBA resumes play. Watch it happen and then read me tell you I told you so.
