I don't disagree but why would he? He would be getting a chick car in the V6 mustang. OP - do yourself a favor and if you decide to get a mustang (used), for the love of GOD, get a cobra or gt - something with a V8 engine and not those V6 teeny bopper chick cars...blech.

Great advice DoD. When I had my 350Z, I was lucky that I didn't have a lot of repairs on it but that was mainly because I only had it for little over a year. The tires on that car were outrageous and only lasted like 30K or less miles.

But I did own a Prelude well before the Z and that car lived in the shop and yes, sports cars, Japanese ones in particular, are costly to fix.

Why? These days 6 and 7 speed automatics are faster and get better mpg than manuals. Plus they last longer than most clutches do.

He said sports car, not luxrious hippie shag wagon.

There is more to a sports car than speed.

If you want to get that serious about the definition then no way is a 350Z a sports car or a Mustang and Camaro.

I've got about 35-40k to spend. Would it be smarter for me to just buy a used car(i'm a big Trans AM guy) and fix it up or just go with something nice in the 35-40 range? I'm very tempted by a Camaro or Challenger but i won't have any money left to fix it up to my liking. I'm so tempted by a muscle car, but at the same time, i feel like luxury is the way to go nowadays.

Then theres also used luxury. I really, really want a Porsche Cayenne, and have found some used ones for good prices.

Maybe whatever i do, i go to a dealer and pay a little more than half in cash and finance the rest so i can have some cash to fix er up.

It's been 2 model years now that ford's selling their v6 stangs with 300 hp at the crank... they're no longer rental cars

and i think it's laughable to suggest a gt or COBRA... to a person only willing to dish 15 to 20k

speed3 is a fantastic choice, though i dont agree with the madza6

manual vs auto... i prefer manual, just because auto got that delay (unless it's tuned, but then your warranty is void)

but those 8 speed autos coming up are no joke

I didn't know that the V6 mustang had that much of a hp boost; still if it was me and I wanted a stang, I would go with a cobra or GT. Obviously, I was implying to the OP that he go used because brand new for either is like double what he wants to spend.

SS or R/T will be fantastic, and they're not just pure muscle, lots of creature comforts these days and best of all, 35k out the door

Mustangs are hideous. I'm not going to be racing up and down westheimer, i don't care if one is a bit faster then the other.

    Granted, who wouldn't want a v8 etc...but at 305hp...the v6 isn't that wimpy.

    Performance
    Mustang V6 and V8 Engines
Mustang muscle delivers a smoking-hot performance.
Ti-VCT V6 (twin independent variable camshaft timing) 305 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque
    5.0L V8 cam torque-actuated Ti-VCT 412 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque
    5.4L V8 supercharged, aluminum block 550 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque

I don't think the Mustang is ugly... the challenger's retro look has grown on me a lot... especially after seeing a silver r/t with white stripes and chrome 22s the other day... majestic!

camaro is very ugly... especially from the inside, and they come staggered, so extra tire costs
