DraftExpress Jonathan Givony by sam_amick Not sure I quite believe this yet, but Minnesota is apparently telling NBA teams that they are taking Enes Kanter #2 over Derrick Williams. Thoughts?
Has to be a smokescreen or maybe Kahn is smoking too much. Thing is, what is the point of throwing up a smokescreen with the #2 pick?
According to Chad Ford: "The Wolves continue to debate between Derrick Williams and Enes Kanter at No. 2. However, it appears that Williams still holds a slight edge there despite the fact the Wolves are beginning to tell teams they're taking Kanter. While I do think the Wolves are strongly considering Kanter, I think the fact that the news has gone public is an attempt by Minnesota to see if Kanter generates more trade interest than Derrick Williams did." http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/30601/latest-draft-buzz-the-top-five-picks
Tell me what I'm missing: How does Minny's open discussion of who they would take at #2 affect the value of the pick? Do they think the other GMs are children?
The only way this works in any logical fashion would be if someone had a deal in place to move up to #3 with Utah, and has rated Kanter significantly ahead of Williams (either talent wise or given their team need... or both), and now says, "Crap! We'll just have to throw in our best player and trade with Minnesota straight up for that #2 pick!" or something like that...
