    Rudy Gay

With this talk of "getting a star player" swirling, could we then say that "not getting" Rudy Gay was a mistake/miscalculation?

Shane Battier served us well! That, as a nothwithstanding point, does not hold me back from wondering if DM made a dropped one there.

Rudy Gay, as a "star player" (in quotes as some may beg to differ) or a movable piece would have been bigger boost to our cause.

But I still trust DM whole-heartedly, mistakes(s)/miscalculation(s) or not.

The reason they (Rox) and Morey didn't take a look at these guys was because they were still operating on the assumption that Yao Ming would be able to come back and be the Yao of old. And I strongly suspect that they are still hoping that he can (somehow) come back from his latest injury and play like the Yao of old - only this time for far less money. They are also hard at work teaching ThaBeet how to play basketball this summer so between those two they should be all set at the 5 with such a formidable duo.

    HillBoy,
I'm with you on defending Morey, but the truth is that Morey's biggest mistake was not addressing the backup center position, in one form or another, over the last couple of years ...and that includes not drafting a 7 footer with one of our many 2nd round picks. I think the fact that we overlooked some good center prospects late in the draft the last couple of years is a legit criticism. It's been obvious for several years that we needed to have a stopgap for Yao. We milked Deke as long as we could (actually we got very lucky that he over-achieved) and then we never got serious about finding a replacement.

    LMAO.
Did you say formidable duo. Yao by himself is formidable, injuries is the big concern, but Thabeet formidable, hahaha, I wish.
I sincerely hope that Thabeet at a minimum becomes a serviceable big next year because we are going to need him. He has a long way to go, I hope they get Deke or the Dream to coach him.
Bye the way the rest of your argument makes good sense, except that Morey has to consider Yao's injury history even if he comes back in 2011-12 season.

    Thabeet's contract is borderline formidable.

This is who the Rockets should take, if they can make a trade. Of course, knowing Morey....they won't.

By the way, Berger was referring as to who we'd target at #8, should we move #14 + #23 for #8.

I still think we're after Valanciunas, though there obviously is a good chance he might not be there at #8.

Here's what the rockets should do: if jim is on the board. Trade him to Knicks for pick and fields. With pick take vucevic. Trade 2nd rounder and our other pick to bulls for their 2 late first rounders. Take Reggie Jackson and Tyler. Trade Jordan hill to bucks for whatever future draft picks you can get.

Depending on how Reggie progresses then we can move Dragon later on if need be.

Seriously, that's a major haul without giving up lee and Patterson.
