Listening to MN sports radio the other day the speculation is that the T-Wolves are really looking for marketing possibilities and figure even with Rubio they are still a ways away from actually being competitive. If they can create some marketing buzz around a pair of Spaniards that actually might be more lucrative than just winning some more games next year with Love, Rubio and Williams and they might not be patient enough to wait to see that young trio can deliver later on.

Now to mention Kevin Love is a hell of a lot younger.

That is understandable if the move translates into immediate contention. The Wolves will NOT be a top 2-3 team with Gasol. It's pure stupidity to trade to generate buzz, and I hope Kahn will be run out of town if he does make this move (as it will also strengthen the Lakers).

Why do teams want to repeatedly reload the Lakers roster for them. In the 80s they got James Worthy for old spare parts, then Kobe forced Charlotte's hand, no one needs to be reminded of the Pau trade, and now, Kevin Love and Derrick Williams for Pau? Really?

-here's another one I found: according to wiki, On August 5, 1976, the Los Angeles Lakers acquired 1977, 1978 and 1979 first-round picks, and a 1980 second-round pick from the Utah Jazz in exchange for a 1978 first-round pick and a 1977 second-round pick. This trade was arranged as compensation when the Jazz signed Gail Goodrich on July 19, 1976.[21] The Lakers used the pick to draft Magic Johnson.

    -Gail Goodrich? Really? Jeebus.

this trade is dumb for both teams. Love is younger and can develop with the young core in twolves. As for lakers, it makes no sense for them as well. Pau is a center you can post up, goto and get moves from right now. Love can do many things, but you can't give him the post and just let him goto work. They are both effective, but have different skillsets which won't translate to an upgrade for the lakers

You've got to be ****ting me. If there was ever a such thing as a player being untouchable it should be Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, Derrick Rose AND KEVIN LOVE. These 4 are the future of the league and the most skilled players at their positions considering age. Furthermore they have yet to enter their prime.

I don't see why Minnesota is so desperate to get a proven star. They have a chance to be like the OKC Thunder a young up and coming team that could and should be good for many years to come.

With these 4 main players you have a lot of options.

    Rubio
    Wes Johnson
    Mike Beasley
    Kevin Love

    1) Draft Williams at number 2 and trade Beasley for a SG.
    2) Draft Knight at number 2 and trade Rubio for a SG.
    3) Draft Kantner at number 2 and keep all 4.

Trading Love and number 2 for Gasol isn't going to make you better by much in the short term and it's the type of bonehead move that keeps teams at the bottom of the barrell as a lottery team year after year.

Rome wasn't built in a day, but apparently the Lakers can be rebuilt in a day as long as idiots like Kahn still have jobs.

At least this would be better than the Fakers getting another "Superman"

Were safe. I just simulated the next 2 seasons in 2k and LA with Love and D.Williams lose in the second round the first year and miss the playoffs the second year. Thunder win championship 1st year. Hawks win 2nd. Gotta love video games.

No way in hell this happens.

Now, if we're talking the #2 pick for Gasol. That's another issue.

The way Kahn is looking at it is that the Wolves aren't going to be in contention anytime soon either way but they can generate more marketing buzz with having Pau and Rubio. This team is so far down and desperate to excite people they are willing to try anything that will generate short term interest and are not so worried about the longterm. That is why they are treating Rubio's arrival like the Heat treated Lebron and Bosh coming. As a local sportswriter noted if this was the Lakers Rubio wouldn't be getting the rock star treatment but the Wolves need something to get excited about.

If this happens Kahn should be run out of town but then again the Wolves are so down not many in MN might care what happens.

They could put him at C next to Love and all of a sudden Rockets are only 2nd worse paint defense in the west

There is no way anyone can be that stupid. Love for Gasol straight up would be ridiculous. You throw in the #2 pick and you're looking at one of the worst trades in NBA history. And of course the lakers get in on it.

    This must be false.
