You think he had driven that same way before many times and probably hit that ramp exit at very high speeds before this tragedy? It wouldn't surprise me if overconfidence contributed based on previously traveling that route before and the alcohol gave him false confidence in what he could manage as far as navigation combined with speed.
Holy crap. A sober person would miss the exit depending on the speed of the vehicle. A drunk person definitely would.
If we have 4 or more people, we have a driver that comes in a SUV...if we have less than that, we cab it. We also have a friend that doesnt drink, so sometimes he drives as well. If I must drive, then I wont have more than one drink over a 2 hour period. Cabbing it can be expensive...but if you consider the cost of valet or parking at some of these places, then its really not much of a difference. Plus, its nice to not worry at all about parking or getting home...not to mention, its a much safer practice.
what if he had killed an innocent bystander? would you guys still feel the same way about him? I can see people blasting ebert but I can also see Ebert's point of view and others who say he deserved what was coming to him if he was drinking and driving.
Somebody make their entire career out of a show called Jackass, and then people act all indignant when someone uses it as a play on words for the ninetybillionth time? Yeesh. Glad no one else got hurt, at least. RIP.
In the picture above, I agree with DD. But there's also those other tire tracks just ahead. Did a semi hit the brakes causing Dunn to swerve over? Idk.
Leave What If to Marvel. There is a way for Ebert to have gone about it. If he wanted to put his two cents in he should have said something like "Ryan Dunn's death shows that nobody is invincible even if you are a paid professional dardevil. It's very sad that two people lost their lives and should be looked at as an example why not to drink and drive." Something along thoses lines would have been fine and would not be getting backlash like it has been. Instead he made a tasteless pun. It's not what he said that makes it unsavory to people that are mourning him, it's how he said it.
He posted it for everyone to see. He had to have known Dunn's family/friends were going to see it. Obviously, he's right... but there was no reason to post it.

i'm wondering if it's not just a coincidence that this tire marks are next to the exit ramp...perhaps he just lost control. I can't imagine anything going that fast would think they could make a ramp with a exit speed of 25mph...then again, i can't imagine sticking a toy car up my butt either so Dunn had a different perspective on life from me.
I would recommend cabbing it...if you're walking downtown Houston, be safe...my brother has gotten jumped/mugged a few times...
