I have wild grapes growing on my fence. Not sure where they came from, but I'd like to cultivate them. Anyone ever done this? Tips?
Yeah. I've got some tips. Email me at RobertMondavi@Merlot.com or my personal, BartlesandJaymes@under21.com.
They're likely "mustang grapes" which aren't very sweet, have huge seeds and very thick skin. If you want to cultivate grapes, I suggest getting rid of those and planting something you could actually enjoy.
Somewhat similar questions. I'm moving into a house that has a backyard patio pergola that gets tons of sun. We want to grow something up the pergola to ultimately cover the support poles and along the top rafters. I live in central texas. obviously, we coudl do a wistera or morning glory, or jasmine, etc. and it'd grow quickly and smell nice, but interested in grapes as an option, too. Would grapes be an option? I've never grown grapes. Do they have to be grown in ground, or would pots work? How long do they take to grow and cultivate? what's their water usage? when would be the best time to plant? any other thoughts about why grapes would be a good or bad idea?
Thanks. I emailed the under21 as I am interested in that sort of age group for the trist-making. I'll check them out. I haven't tried one. They have a weird watermelon-like pattern on the outside. I googled them and the leaves are different.
