There's no rule that you can't ripoff your own movie and put it back out there. Plus Spielberg was only the executive producer, but J.J. Abrams wrote and directed it. I enjoyed the movie, but it doesn't have the same magic as Spielberg movies like E.T. because it just isn't original anymore.
Dakota Skye 6/10 High school girl has a superpower. Starts out fairly good but turns into just another teen angst movie.
So...Took the kids to see Green Lantern... 7/10 I had no expectations and while it wasn't the best comic come to life, it wasn't the worst...Hector was awsome, Blake Lively was hawt...I liked Thor a lot better
Naked Ambition: An R Rated Look at an X Rated Industry - C+ - Interesting little doc about the AVN awards, not really anything very deep but still very interesting. Restrepo - A - Really a stark view of what our servicemen go through in the Middle East Frozen - B - well done but not quite Open Water quality, still enjoyable for an indy horror flick.
Adjustment Bureau 6/10 - found the premise to bit a bit weird, though there were bits I liked overall seemed to be like too much fantasy to be in a 'drama' type movie
The Hurt Locker- 9/10 Mimic-8/10 Sorority Row-5/10 for hot b****es Sucker Punch- 6/10 5 for Hot b****es and 1 for somewhat of a good moral and twist at the end, the rest of the movie, the CGI playstation character stuff I didn't understand. Maybe I'm just too stupid i don't know.
Let the Right One In - 8/10 Swedish vampire film. Definitely not your run of the mill movie. It's creepy and has a certain innocence as well. I really enjoyed it. The Red Violin - 6/10 An Italian movie about the history of a violin, its maker, and other people who've owned it. It was not bad but I wasn't into it really. It does have Samuel L Jackson in a supporting role. Kevin Smith: Too Fat for 40 - 5/10 Has some funny stories but the whole taking a crap while stoned bit was a little too gross for me. Wedding Daze - 5.5/10 - Kind of mindless entertainment but again has some funny parts. Stone - 6/10 - Hard to rate this one. Has an amazing cast... Deniro, Norton, and Milla Jovovich but it's just missing something. Ultimately it tried to be hard but it just wasn't hard enough. The Norton character proved to be way too soft. If Norton had been more Primal Fear, this could have been epic. Disappointing.
Adult-o-meter scale: 6 Kid-o-meter scale: 8 (I'll side with my kid rating) Bought this movie yesterday and watched it with my 5 and 9 year olds. I also laughed all the way through...only because I can see some of my childhood in the characters and can also see my kids in the characters.
Black Swan 9/10, only because the Natalie Portman and Mina Kunis sex scene was overrated as ****.... You want an erotic sexual tense lesbian scene, go watch Bound... jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon is the best lesbian sex scene in American Cinema history..
I did watch the American remake of "Let the Right One In" (Let Me In) and Bebop was right - it was a shot-for-shot remake which is fairly lame. That being said, as I don't speak Swedish I think the dialogue was better (the english dub for the original was ok, but I suspect some translation issues were unavoidable and, as with all dubs, sometimes it was clodgy.) I also thought they overdid the supernatural aspect of the girl - I like it better in the Swedish where it's very understated. The lighting in the original is also far better. Meh. The original is better, but this one is still ok. 7.5/10.
The Hit List - 6.5/10 Another B movie by Cuba Gooding Jr. Not bad though... The Rite - 6/10 Demonic possession horror movie with Anthony Hopkins. Had some creepy parts, but not that scary.
Kite Runner 8/10 - This is about an Afghan man living in the US that returns to Afghanistan to rescue a boy from the Taliban because of who the boy is to him. Pretty damn good movie but I was kind of annoyed with how they made life in the US look so incredible which it is in comparison but I thought they should have thrown in a little bit of how difficult it is for an immigrant to adjust. Timer 7.5/10 - Shockingly good independent movie about a woman who's waiting to meet her soulmate. People wear these timers that click on when their soulmate gets their own timer and the timers count down to the time they're supposed to meet. I had no expectations at all so I was pleasantly surprised. I'm Through With White Girls 6/10 This is about a guy who only dates white women because black women don't really get him. Finally he decides to stop dating only white women and he ends up meeting someone. It was not bad at all, much better than I expected. I swear I saw Bookman from Good Times in the cast! Shades of Ray 7.5/10 I really liked this movie for some reason. It's about a guy who is of Pakistani heritage and he's asked his girlfriend to marry him but before it's all said and done he meets a Pakistani girl that his father introduces him to. It's funny but nothing spectacular about it other than Sarah Shahi who is totally gorgeous, never seen her in anything before. Trade 7/10 I was really not prepared for how disturbing some of the stuff in this movie was. The movie is based on a NYT story about sex trafficking. It has Kevin Kline in it and it's a real eye opener. There are rape scenes in it so be forwarned.
Saw Green Lantern last night 6.5/10 wasnt as terrible as the reviews made it seem but i think the project was a bit too ambitious right now with so much of the movie needing to rely on cgi and yes parts of the movie's cgi was not well done at well.
You just saw that. And yes it is, shame you had to wait to see greatness for so long. Super 8---anything above a 5/10 my ass and im super leniant. That was pure azzz
The Kid Stays in the Picture - 6 Robert Evans autobiographical documentary on his rise and fall in Hollywood from discovered actor to mega movie producer to drugs, failure, and back again. It's what you would expect from that era of Hollywood, the swagger, the cliches, etc. I've heard crazy good things about the book and especially the audio book. I was disappointed in the presentation as it's really just a series of pictures and video clips set to snippets from the audio book (from which Evans reads himself). I thought you would at least see Evans talk himself, but there was just old clips of him from back in the day. Nonetheless it was still entertaining and interesting enough to watch, they seemed to do a good job of boiling the story down to movie length. It says a lot about Evans' life and I'm definitely looking forward to the audio book to get the whole story. I'd recommend this if you don't think you'll ever get to the audio book and you've got some spare time. You won't be disappointed by the stories.
Happy Accidents 7.5/10 - A really good independent movie with Marisa Tomei and Vincent D'Onofrio. Great acting here and a really good story. Boy meets girl, boy says he's from the future. You really don't find out if he's lying or not until the very end.
