Love Scola, but like Brooks wish we would've sold him at his highest point(this past season), but it can be rectified by doing it THIS off-season. Very good player, love watching him play, and we are fortunate to have him. But we should cash in on him.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I voted no, because I wear my heart like a crown! but In the right I guess, we would have to trade him right? He's only getting older and has "hit his plateau." It would be the road less traveled (so to speak) if we did keep him for his...grit. Damn should I have voted otherwise?
No, you should vote how you feel, IMO. How else? I voted no, but scribbled a qualifier. I am totally against dealing him simply because of his age, or his contract. He ain't old and his contract is a bargain for his production. If he's the key to a deal that's a major upgrade of the team? I wish him nothing but the best, as I would to any other member of the current team placed in that position. We need help.
wouldn't want to trade him but as we all know, we currently don't have the luxury of untouchable players. That being said maybe Scola could help mentor Rubio in Minnesota like the Wolves are hoping Gasol could. Scola isn't a Gasol level player but he's much cheaper and obtainable than Gasol. If we couldn't land the 2nd pick maybe we could get guys they're rumored to be shopping like Beasley,Flynn, or maybe Randolph. (My hope is we could land Love in free agency one day!)
I would be willing to trade him as part of the master plan for star players, but he's still plenty valuable as a Rocket. D@mn good mid-range shooter, smart player, got the Scola tango or whatever they call his up and under moves. Not the best defense, but he's a hustle player and a good team player. Straight up for Howard!!!
Agreed. He is not on the decline and his contract is not bad, and he has been very durable so far. You don't trade a guy like that just for the sake of it. That said, trading him for a good center or a main cog at SF makes sense. Patterson is our future PF.
I love scola. probably my fav rocket right now.... but you dont win championships by loading rosters with players you like. u have to do whats best for the team to get better. You can live with a single 1 way player in the starting lineup, but not 2. and im sorry, but martin brings more to this team than Scola does. a starting five of lowry\martin\jsmoove\ppat\hayes just is too good defensively too pass up. I'm not saying that the jsmoove move, is the right move to make, just an example. It's a tough call if we r talking about trading martin and scola. but I think Patterson is too good to keep on the bench, and Lee will be in the running for 6th man of the year as long as he keeps getting 20-25 mins a game. Dont get me wrong, i would have no problem with lee in the starting line up either. actually i kinda drool at the thought. But his ability to come in and play the 1 or 2, and guard anyone 1-3 is better suited off the bench. In conclusion, i would definitely trade scola for either a 5 tool SF or a shot blocking C.
We need more 2 way players. I love Scola's offensive game. He can stick the mid-range jumper all day, runs the floor hard, and has a repertoire of post-up moves. Too bad that he can't play a lick of defense.
I dont agree that Scola is in decline, and I dont think trading him should be a priority. He is a tradable player due to the expectations we have put on Patterson.
Well, since this team has accomplished NOTHING the way it is currently built, that means NO ONE should be untouchable.
not sure how the thread started decided Scola is on a decline, cos he got injured from a freak incident on the court that finally ended his consecutive games played streak? in case you didnt notice, Hakeem won 2 rings around this age (31-32) when he peaked. plus, Scola doesnt have that high mileage compared to other NBA players cos he joined much later in his career and thats the reason why he was active with the Argentinian National team. if anything his stats shows he's not in a decline. ok i admit, i love Scola and i hope he retires a Rocket, he's one of my favourite player cos he plays with a lot of heart and passion. also for the salary he's being paid, i think he's value for money. unless he's involved in a trade for someone like Chris Paul or maybe Blake Griffin, i say we keep him. heck i would rather have him than freaking Chris Bosh!! i think Scola is a McHale type of player and i think he will improve next season.
Can we address the core argument here? I'm talking about Scola being on the decline. His age and his first injury at the end of the season would suggest that he might be on the decline but his production says otherwise. His game has never been based on athleticism and he's one of the few decent rebounders who gets his solely by being in the right position (not jumping). His footwork is rock solid and he seems to be getting more and more comfortable in the NBA. I'm not saying he's not going to decline eventually, but I don't that process is going to start for another good 3 years.
I see no evidence that scola is on the decline. The guy is an iron-man when it comes to injury. He still has an excellent post game, he's a good shooter, and he goes after every loose ball. That said, he's not a great rebounder, and he's not a good defender. It's hard to judge what kind of power forward we need when we have a gaping hole at center. Right now, we need a 4 that is going to bring defensive presence as well as post play, and Scola just isn't that guy. As much as i like Pat, i don't think he's that guy either. He does a lot of things well (including playing good defense) and has a versitile game, but he's not the big presence we need in the front court. If we had Bogut or Ibaka or Noah at the 5, I would be comfortable with a rotation of Scola, Patterson, and Hayes at the 4, but since we don't have much on defense over 6'6", it's hard to see playing a one-dimensional offensive 4 all those minutes.
Ok ok, you had me, we all like Scola, he's a good player but your statement about mileage.... he started playing professionally when he was 15 years old in Argentina in 95...
He's my favorite rocket and as long as he keeps that hair flowing and sexy he will never decline. But since we're moving into a new direction, that of winning big, we should trade him to a contender. Has anyone ever mentioned...Scola for Tiago(and salary dump)?
