I believe I read somewhere that just any one of the books is equivalent to the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy in length....if that gives you any idea.

In other words...ya...they are pretty freaking long. (but very good!)

Game of Thrones is 800 pages.
Clash of Kings is 970 pages.
Storm of Swords is the longest at 1100 pages.
Not sure how long Feast for Crows is.

Freakin' Cersei. Jaime hasn't been a prisoner for more than five minutes and she already seduced the cousin who has a 12 year old girls body. Where is the loyalty?

What was the deal with Maester Pycelle doing squats and then acted feeble as he walked out the door? Is he pretending to be an old guy with senior moments? Which isn't a real stretch.

I believe the scene with the incest explains how the King died to the boar...

Also, the scene about Maester Pycelle shows the "game of thrones" where people are fighting to "win=survive". Since he comes off as no threat to anyone he always survives. He lives on because of his act. I thought that was one of the best scenes in the entire series. It showed the "art of war" or the strategy of war that he had chosen. It was really amazing.

Unfortunately, I don't think Dotrice narrates A Feast for Crows, but I believe they brought him back for A Dance with Dragons.

Since she can't be with Jamie, she is replacing him with the next closest Lannister even though he is a poor copy.

I've been listening to the audiobooks for the rereads. Dotrice doesn't do A Feast of Crows, but the guy they got is also good.

I was wondering this too, the introduction of the dragons was done really well though... I dont think there will be any drop off next season the people who are watching this have probably been watching True Blood and that show has almost every fantasy/monster element in it they can cram.

finished watching this yesterday and was pleased the way the story has been going. I may just go and get the books now to read. the first few episodes were a bit confusing in that was tossed right in but things fit into place with future episodes.

oh and seriously the music for the opening theme is just amazing

He needs to work on his fake english accent though. It comes off weird sometimes.

    "Cut off his caulk?"

I loved the series and just started the first book. I can already tell there will be a ton details left out of the series or changed such as the fact that there is apparently a lot of history behind the sword Ned uses to behead oath breakers.

The other thing I have noticed is how the Stark kids are not at all on the series as they are described in the book. Jon is only 14 in the book but clearly older than that in the series. Robb is a big muscular guy and older than Jon in the book but in the series they are about the same size and age. Bran is 6 in the book but looks at least 10 in the series. Just a couple of things that I have noticed so far.

True, but I think the show went as young as they could go without the acting being unbearable to watch. Also, the Stark kids' actions/personalities in the book are mature beyond their years (besides Sansa who acts like a 10 year old), so it doesn't come off as unreasonable.

For comparison, my copy of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy is about 1,200 pages. So close, but not quite.

I bought the box set with the first 4 books and started reading A Game of Thrones last night. I have no idea how long it's going to take me to get through it all. It seems like a monumental task at this point.

A lot of the cost of the series was front loaded with building sets. So it will be much cheaper to produce upcoming seasons...meaning there's a better chance for them.
