Luis Scola is the currently the oldest player on the Rockets. No NBA team cares about Brad Miller, and neither do we. He is 31, followed by Kevin Martin who is 28. While Martin is in his prime, Scola has peaked and is on the decline. Should trading Scola be a priority, or would it be better to keep such a hard working player on the Rockets. Keep in mind Scola gave up $8 million to play for the Rockets.
Guy is all heart, hustle, and damn honorable as a team-mate. You should never get rid of Triple-H the Ice-cream man. Hope he retires as a Rocket.
Im in favor of trading anybody on this team. Hesitant to trade Martin and Lowry because they can get it done but scola has the most value out of everyone so he should be traded hopefully to the pacers.
he's my favorite player. but he's on a large, long-term contract and he's getting old. not to mention the offseason surgery is something that can seriously diminish his long term production. in short, we are at the crossroads where his contract will start to outweigh his worth. he will soon be considered over-paid and impossible to move. as i said with tmac and yao... trade him while you can still get something for him. tmac was traded just in time to get a decent return. yao was held onto too long and will probably never get us a return. its also worth noting that pat should be given room to grow as the team isn't contending and doesn't need to play aging vets, but rather develop the youngsters.
i would have started trading everyone last year. Had enough cap space +this years draft pick and young guys to go after Dwight and another star. But of course, now it will never happen. So i don't care. Keep him, trade him. Doesn't matter. Were not winning in the next 5-7 years.
this. Pretty baseless statement to claim he's on the decline. Especially when you consider he was literally the lone post option on this team last season
I love scola and never want to see him play in another uniform...but i feel he is probably our second most valuable peace to trade and is almost necessary if we are in serious rebuild mode.
Depends on what you get... as always. Not a "yes" or "no" question. For Dwight Howard? Yes. For Gilbert Arenas? No.
I'm personally hoping McHale would mentor him. If he could learn some defense and college level box-out, he'd easily double his value.
Exactly how is that? Honestly, we should have sold high right after the World Championships. I love Scola and he epitomizes what basketball and team sports is all about. But one would think the main reason he wasn't moved before the deadline is to satisfy fans like yourself. I totally understand the heart and soul thing but there are practical realities/salaries/managed risks/timeframes that supercede our love of certain players..... As a longtime Rockets fan, I'm all for a deal that makes our TEAM/ORGANIZATION stronger .... Besides, Luis needs to be dealt to a contender. That is where his real value resides now.
Where was the definitive moment that he peaked? I don't think you should generally make it a priority to trade any solid player. You should always be open to a trade if you'll get something better in return, but that doesn't mean you just wake up one day and think "man, I gotta get rid of this guy." But I'm no GM. Maybe they do think like that?
Since when has Scola declined? You don't trade a guy as quality as Luis just to do it. Obviously if something good comes down the pipeline, his age and having Ppat as the backup allows you the freedom of moving him.
same thing in this case, it all depends on how you look at it....technically the points are crossing right now. Just to clarify though, i wasn't implying he wasn't done peaking.
