(Sorry, hsf09 -- I moved this post of yours to a separate thread, even though it's from the same article that is the basis of this thread. Seems like a different discussion.)

I think this is a tad confusing by Woj. He seems to suggest the Rockets and Pistons could strike a deal, but then goes on to add he thinks Leonard could have been given a guarantee by the Pistons.

If you can get as high as #8 for #14 and #23, I think you have to pull the trigger. You never know who could slide as low as 8, but assuming Brandon Knight goes before that (fairly certain), you'd be guaranteed to be able to choose one of these players: Enes Kanter, Jonas Valunciunas, Jan Vesely, Kawhi Leonard, Bismack Biyombo. If Kemba Walker goes before that (not certain), you'll be able to pick from two or more in that group.

Finally a rumor that could possibly have some teeth to it... I'd jump on this in a heartbeat.

    No problem.

Yeah, you probably pull the the trigger on such a deal. I guess it would be a case of Detroit waiting to see who's there at eight(if their guy or target falls to them), if they like that person, obviously they take that guy. If not, and if Houston likes someone still available at that spot, you could see a possible trade. I dont think Leonard will be available for Detroit(one spot earlier to Sacramento?) but we just dont know how this stuff will shake out(except for maybe the top two picks-- Irving and Williams).

Seems to make perfect sense to me; Pistons give a guarantee to Kawhi that if he's there at #8, they're going to get him, if he's gone, they set up a separate deal to trade down. It's kind of like what the Rockets did in 2006; they had the deal in place to trade with Minnesota for Roy, then, had a backup plan to trade away the pick if Portland swooped in and messed up the deal.

If he snags one of the Euro bigs (Vesely/Valanciunas/Biyombo), I will be officially psyched for 2012+. But to me, there is only one guy that Morey trades up for, and that's Jimmer Fredette, and pre-emptively count me in with the majority that would HATE that move.

Do you think it's possible we take someone outside those you've listed? Are those the names you are hearing from the Rockets, or just general consensus?

I'm confused, as always, with all the pre-draft rumors, player guarantees etc. I have read that Thompson has a guarantee from Joe D.

So, two guarantees? Do both have to be off the Board for this deal to occur?

If Valenciutas (sp? sorry, but y'all know who I mean) is in free-fall due to buy-out issues then he might fall into Rox lap at 14?

I always enjoy draft nite; I just never like the process that gets us 'there'.

Wierd, because it seems that Kawhi Leonard will probably be around for the 8th pick. For Daryl to trade up around the 8th pick, I am guessing he is after Jonas Valanciunas. We need to hope and pray that Kawhi gets picked from 3-7. What sucks is that I was hoping that Kawhi would be a Rocket, but I am all for stashing a young stud C in Europe while we tank it up for a year... ;)

More importantly, Valanciunas puts us in play for Dwight Howard and Josh Smith.

    YOU CAN DO IT DARYL!!!

That makes no sense... Because you draft a center, Dwight will want to come and play for us?

Valanciunas puts us in play for Howard and Smith? Valanciunas honestly looks like a potential bust to me.

I'm sure he means to trade the drafted player in a package for Dwight.

Jonas Valanciunas has the potential to be a very important piece to a bigger trade.

If we were to make a deal with Atlanta (Where Horford wants to play PF), or Orlando, you will need to have a young, potential stud C to throw back in a deal, along with other pieces...

Sounds about right. This kind of trades typically don't get concluded until the pick is on the clock on draft night since teams want to know which player they can select first before making the deal.

I'm also thinking Daryl most have spoke with SAC about the 7th and CHA about the 9th as well.

Edit: And Milwaukee at 10th, too.

Also, funny enough, Draftexpresse's mock draft has Valanciunas going to..... Detroit at 8th!

I don't know. Just from the sounds of it, it seems like there a decent chance we might end up with Valanciunas or Biyombo at #14 anyway.

I guess it comes down to who the Rockets want, how badly they want him and how they think this draft is going to play out.

But if the rockets are in love with Jonas Valanciunas, do you run the risk of letting him slide in front of 4 or 5 teams past Detroits pick to get to #14. You would think if the rockets stand pat at #14 a big will fall to them, but it may not be the one they truly covet. Going to be an interesting thursday night.
