So recently I think I have contracted a computer virus or some sort of issue. Every time I try and search something, whether it is through google or yahoo, etc etc... the results come up, but when I click a link, it redirects me to spam. And then when I try again, it sends me to some other spam. You guys know anything about this? I would google it.. but that isn't an option Sidenote: What are ya'lls recommendations for anti-virus software? And don't say Norton. I'm not looking to spend $80...
It's a malware Download this http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html
I think i had that a few months ago and it was the AV2010 virus or ssomething alnong those lines....it was a b**** to remove...which reminds me, the program that deleted it worked very quickly. I wish i could remember what it was Briefcase comes to mind for some reason. Is there an antivirus program named briefcase or something similar
Weird. I'm usually pretty good about this stuff which is why I stopped worrying about attacks, but I suppose things change. I saw this awesome best buy promo that I wanted to research and it forwarded me to what looked like the best buy website. Asked me to complete a short survey and all about best buys site. Looked extremely legit. Gullible me. I figured it wad bull**** once it offered me a wal Mary gift card though.
Had this, it was a major nuisance and I was told to DL all sorts of free anti virus (none of which worked). So I just went to latest restore point, restored computer there and it was fixed in like 10 min.
Download MalwareBytes and the updated definition files. Download SuperAntiSpyware and the updated definition files. Turn off System Restore Run both programs one after the other with the updated definition files.
Sorry add to that note, if you can't get to a restore point, restart computer, and start it up in safe mode, then you should have no trouble getting there.
Thanks for the help guys. After removing the infected files, I tested it and all is good. I love clutchfans. Now that I have some cash flow, I'm gonna make a donation to the tipjar. Right now.
Downloaded MalwareBytes. It found some things, removed them, then I restarted my desktop. After the reboot, ran Firefox and the problem was still happening. Next I downloaded rkill, it found the culprit and stopped the process. That seemed to work, but I don't think rkill actually removed the file from my pc, so hopefully running MalwareBytes a second time will remove the file.
From a previous virus / malware related thread: 1. Reboot PC into Safe mode using F8 at the splash screen. (like another poster said). 2. Run rkill available here. Rkill.exe It stops known malware processes. If you aren't able to connect to the internet. Open internet explorer, open internet options. Click on the Connections Tab. Click on Advanced. Un-check proxy server if it's check marked. 3. Download malwarebytes and run the scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php 4. If the malware caused your files to disappear, download and run unhide.exe here. It will make all your files visible again. A bunch of these new malwares add +h to them. Unhide.exe
rkill does not remove any problems. It temporarily suspends them, allowing you to use your computer to clean up the malware. Malwarebytes is the best. Also, if you ever saw the name come up check your %appdata% , msconfig start up, etc.
After running rkill and then re-running MalwareBytes and rebooting, everything seems to be fine. Thanks for the help everyone.
