Should we sell our 14th pick to the Heat for $3M?

Andy Katz just reported on ESPN that the Heat are looking to buy there way into the first round for 3 million dollars.

I think we should. This draft is not really deep and we really only have two needs. We need a star player(which every team woud like one) and a Center. This draft has neither. We could use that 3M to help us get a good FA Center.

    Thoughts?

.... why? The $3M does not help us gain any additional cap space, other than the Rockets not having to pay the #14th pick's rookie slot.

This is a terrible suggestion. You don't give away lottery picks for cash.

Thoughts? ****ty idea, plain and simple. You don't just give away lottery picks, even if it is an "off year."

You need to be (a) broke and (b) outside the lottery to want in on that.

    Charlotte at 19 (NOH)
    Minnesota at 20 (MEM)

Are probably the only two that might consider it.

If we're splitting the 3 mill, sure, let's do it. :)

If anything the Rockets should be offering 3 mil for other teams unwanted picks to draft Euro stash players.

OP...by now, you should be able to see that we, as Rockets fans, gain NOTHING by selling our lottery pick for $3 million dollars. We don't gain money. We don't gain capspace (except for the lack of paying a rookie scale salary contract, which is generally considered one of the best kinds of contracts to have on the team). Les wouldn't be splitting the money with fans. We gain absolutely nothing.

You claim that this draft is not really deep...well, it's actually quite the opposite. 15-35 is full of quality role players. This draft is quite deep, relative to others. It isn't too strong at the top, however. There is no superstar sure-thing player that's sitting pretty at any of the top spots.

You say we need a star player and a center. Most of us would agree. But then you say that this draft has neither. You're right that it doesn't have a star player. But it does have 3-4 quality or high potential centers in the first round.

How could we use that $3M to get a good quality FA center? It's not capspace. Players make salaries, not cash upfront. We don't pay $3M in cash to get the rights to a FA. So what are we missing here?

Why would you want to essentially give away our lottery pick?
