Calvin vs Maravitch of the (then New Orleans) Jazz....some crazy scoring game where they got 40 or 50 each.
Sad to say that I am a young fan (18) so my earliest memory is basically Yao's first season. But I remember a few games, one game against the Clippers where Glen Rice brought us back from down 5 with under a minute left. Corey Maggette had a lane fiolation on a free throw which was odd. But that allowed Glen Rice to hit a three to send it to overtime, where we won. Also remember when we played the Wizards in MJ's last season (glad that I actually got to see MJ play, even if it was for the Wizards, oh well). Third game I remember is Steve Francis's 44 points to beat the Lakers. That was epic.
My first memory of the Houston Rockets was Opening Night 2007-08 season. We were playing the lakers and Battier Won us the game.
1992...I was 6 yrs old, Rockets were playing the Cleveland Cavaliers. It was really hot outside so instead of playing I decided to stay in and watch the boring television. I fell in love ever since.
mine was watching the Sonics kill our championship hopes in 1993. I remember being at a friends house watching most the series.
Sitting in Section 102, Row E, Seats 1 & 2 in The Summit with my dad. He got those seats the first year they opened the Summit and kept them until 1995 when Les jacked up the prices. This was the non-smoking section (yes, you used to be able to smoke at NBA games). My dad, who played basketball in college and was a pretty imposing figure, took pride in being the smoke watchdog during games and always walked up to anyone smoking in our section and told them to put it out. They always did without argument and the people around us would always applaud him afterwards. We still laugh about that. I remember being AMAZED at how great Calvin Murphy was despite being so short. He was my sports idol. That is, until Earl Campbell came along. Also I loved Billy "The Wopper" Paultz. Mostly because of his nickname. I remember the halfcourt shot to win the car at halftime. Once or twice a year someone would nail it and the whole place would explode. They should bring that promotion back.
wish he had played like that every game. dude had game what happend?? he looked as if he coulda actually made a name for himself in the NBA
I remember celebrating the '95 title win, I was 5. Don't remember the games themselves, just the thrill of victory.
My first Rocket moment was when I was in third or fourth grade so approx. 1976-1977. My uncle and his date took my sister and I to a game. It was the only game I went to as a kid and I didn't go to another game until high school. Interestingly I grew up about a mile from The Summit but my dad was too cheap to take us to games. Anyway, I don't remember anything about the game or the players but the one thing I remember is there was a band (high school band I would guess) there and they all of a sudden started playing (this was before the game started) and it startled my uncle's date so much that she jumped and popcorn went flying everywhere. Luckily there wasn't anyone sitting in front of us at the time. I'll ask my uncle who we were playing and if he remembers the exact year the next time I see him.
Mine was May 11, 1977, I was at the game when the Rockets beat 76ers 118-94 in the 3rd game of the Eastern Confrence Finals...yes, that does say Eastern folks.
I was born in the 2nd year Houston won their back-to-back championships.. I dont know NBA till I heard of a guy called Yao Ming... Ever since he got drafted and still in Houston Rockets. I support them all the way.. I (heart) Houston Rockets
A nice story, ima. Your Dad sounds like a great guy! Murph was unreal, wasn't he? One of my all-time favorite players with the Rocks. The broadcasting was just a bonus. (one I wish we still had!)
watching hakeem play as a kid and then on the ride home trying to say his name over and over to make sure i pronounced it right. drove my dad nuts

I was four years old when the Houston Rockets came to our town. I couldn't wait to see them. After the game I was asked if I wanted to go meet some of the players backstage. Man, I was thrilled. But when I got back there, they were drunk and out of control. John Lucas Sr. and Jim Peterson kept feeling up my leg. I tried to leave, but, Lewis Lloyd held me down, and... I was raped by Mr. Mccray.
