I say we trade both of our picks away for Veteran help, LAC is very willing to get rid of Kaman, we should try and trade one of our picks and Thabeet (or someone else) for him. Then try and trade the other pick and Dragic to Portland for Andre Miller. I would say try and get Bogut from the Bucks, but who really knows how long he'll be healthy after his arm heals up, but you could go for that too instead of one of the others. Then sign VC, he's about to get a buyout, so he can backup both SG and SF, he's still able to give you 15-18 ppg, and is willing to play some D. Of course no one here will like getting vets, because mostly everyone here wants the Rockets to throw the season away already.
1.Shortened season 2.We need a star/franchise player in the worst way 3.We need a center 4.We need to develop our assets 5.We don't need any more veterans (Brad Miller)you do those moves when you're a championship team in need of veteran leadership. 6.We are close to the luxury tax. 7.Next years draft is loaded! I'm ready to sacrifice this upcoming season.
Jimmer Freddete. Everyone else say we should go for bigs but no "Big" in this draft class would ever be a star. At 14th, if Jimmer's still there, take him.
I think Morey has done a decent job, his only flaw has been that we need a true center over the last two years because of Yao's injury history and that need has not been properly addressed. I say properly because he tried to address this need with Brad Miller and Thabeet but it did not work out. Will that need be addressed in this draft I don't know, I do hope he tries to get a big man with one of the three picks, but then again he may stockpile the BPA's for future trades. Lets not judge Morey simply on this draft, lets look at the entire offseason and see if he solves this problem before next season, if and when that season begins.
Looks like the chances of trading up to #2 are becoming extremely unlikely. Looks like Kanter is also going to be out of reach - I definitely don't see him making to #5, and I'm not sure he'd get past Utah at 3. Cavs may need to take him first if they're convinced he'll make it as a starting center. An Irving/Davis combo with no bigs will be awful. If the Rockets are serious about getting a rotation guy, I think they do need to make the trade up to #7. Valanciunas, Vesley, Leonard would make the most sense as targets. I don't know about Biyombo that high. If they can't move up, I still think Singelton makes more sense at #14 (defensive 3) than Biyombo (repeat of Chuck Hayes as undersized F/C?) and Brooks or Vucevic would be good at #23. I think a lot of Europrospects are going to benefit hugely from all of the kids that stayed in school this year. Just hoping that we aren't getting high on them simply from them bumping up to fill the vacuum left by Sullinger, Jones, Barnes, etc. Should we lose any real time (and I'm very concerned that we will), I'm right with you. We aren't winning a championship next season, so give Williams, Lee, Patterson plenty of burn and see what we've got there. I'm not as quick to trade away Martin and Scola (you don't get better making yourself worse) just to tank....but if a great deal comes along, no one should be untouchable.
We don't have a lot of picks in 2012 so tanking would not be a good option cause we would have to give up a lot to buy into that draft.
The only way we lose our pick in 2012 is if we make the playoffs. If we were to tank, I don't see how that would happen, but maybe I'm missing something.... Pugs
Nope. I said we dont have a lot of picks, not that we have none. I am just saying I would not tank for one pick, when you already got a lot bad teams to compete with vying for the top picks. We have a few former first round pics on our roster that have not panned out, so to give up a season for a gamble because the person might not pan out is bad for the pyschology of the team. I don't like the Rockets to have a loosing mentality like the TWolves or the Clippers.
Call me stupid, but how do you not tank for one pick? I suppose technically you're tanking for 2 picks since you also get a 2nd rounder? I do agree with you, I don't want to be known as a losing team like the ones you listed, but look at the Spurs. They tanked for one year and got back on the right track. If we did tank and ended up with the #1 pick, I'm not expecting us to get a Tim Duncan, but whoever we get will definitely put us light years ahead of where we are and where we would be if we continue making picks in the 10-14 range. I just don't see your logic about not tanking for one pick. I see that you aren't in favor of tanking, unless it was for more than one pick, but I don't see how that is possible unless you're planning on tanking for more than one year? Pugs
He's just saying the same thing every person, like myself, who is against tanking, losing purposely or whatever you want to call it, is saying. Just because you lose doesn't mean you will get a good pick. Just because you get a good pick doesn't mean you are going to draft the right player. Just because you draft at 14 and not at say 7th or 8th in a draft doesn't mean you can't still get the guy you were targeting and would have taken if you DID have the lower pick.(Patterson?) I agree, a lot of this logic goes out the window when there are the once in a generation guys coming in, but other than that I will never be on board with weakening our team for lotto tickets with so much uncertainty.
Was meant as a direct message to someone but he sent it out as a public tweet. Jonathan_Feigen Jonathan Feigen Also, in reading the CBA, the current pick is not classified as a 'future pick' as in the Stepien Rule. They can't trade 2012 and 13.
thanks! Pugsly I hope you now see the point I was trying to make. The Spurs we lucky there was a chance that even with the worst record you dont end up with number one. If it was the draft year when Lebron, Mello, Wade and Bosh were available it would be less of a gamble. Unless you have a very deep draft giving up a season for one draft pick is risky. The Clippers and TWolves have been doing this for years, and even though they have Kevin Love and Blake Griffin it is hard to attract stars to a loosing franchise unless you offer a large amount of money and risk overpaying.
Tanking is for PU***'s, everyone seems to forget the kind of players we have on our roster, does everyone actually think that players like Lowry, Scola, Martin, Hayes and hell even Miller would sit there and let us lose a game. Those guys work damn hard every year, they play to win, they don't always win, but those guys aren't going to give up some games for a draft pick.
I am absolutely astonished. Within weeks of the end of the season and a 9th place season in which we performed significantly better after the all=star break, people on this site are suggesting we tank NEXT season...before a game has even been played. Defeatism is a disease.
dude get real, we are not gonna win a championship with this team, next years draft will be loaded... don't get me wrong i still want the rockets to compete but at the end of the day/season i would like to be in the top 10 lottery teams hopefully we luck out in the lottery and move up and draft a star.
At least TRY to look towards the future. We're looking at a full rebuild either way, it's just a matter of when. I'd rather not put off the inevitable, and try for a franchise player in a strong draft, than continue on our current path of mediocrity only to be faced with the same need to rebuild 2-3 years down the line.
