BBSers, be careful what you post on Clutchfans! It can come back and bite you if something shows up on the front page of the Houston Chronicle!

You've got to be careful with all social media, but especially careful with Twitter. I'm on FB, but I avoid Twitter...too easy to post something and not be able to take it back.

Here is the rule: Don't post anything online that you wouldn't feel comfortable having printed on the front page of the Houston Chronicle.

I think posting pictures of your crotch is already not allowed on cf.net, so we should be okay. Of course, with the new private messaging mechanism Clutch put in, I suppose it's only a matter of time....

    From the article:

In the online world, there are no secrets and there is no privacy,” Puhn said. “You have to expect that what you say and do will be printed in a major media outlet.”

There IS privacy, but not online. Simple as that.

    It's a simple concept.

Funny thing . . people do not value their own privacy
    and
    they do not value yours.

We say that but does that stop some *ss clown from videoing you and posting it on the internet without your permission or knowledge?
    not at all.

You have no privacy anywhere in which someone can take/place their cell phone/ camera/etc.
It seems people don't even understand the concept of privacy.

Weiner was privately tweeting and sending lewd messages for years and no one cared.

It's when he posted his dick PUBLICLY that he got caught.

HE posted it publicly. Seems like some people in this thread don't have the facts.

It actually didn't happen. It was a conspiracy.

Other way around man. Avoid Facebook but Twitter is harmless, provided you're not an idiot.

I go to some lengths to protect my privacy here, ignoring requests to "friend" members, something that ordinarily I'd be delighted to do. Still, after a bazillion posts, one wonders. Certainly, I've posted things here, personal things, that I wouldn't have posted had I a concern about folks knowing who I really am. I'm always surprised by those who glibly tell the world here who they are, and what they are doing. Some of them I greatly admire, based on their personas here, but it's not something I would think of doing. I've turned down several possible meetings with members, which bothers me as well, because I'd like to meet them. Heck, some of you live in my neighborhood, or the surrounding area! :-O-

    Agreed.
    Call it paranoia..
Call it just being security conscious

    It also divides

Blame males again for females own lack of self restraint.

Females arent doing that solely for guys approval. Its people JUST can't resist doing something thats "publishable".

Seems minor but self shot pics have become acceptable, even when they look clumsy and awkward. When years back it looked contrived. Cuz everyone's agreed the attention whoring is too vital, to where there shouldnt be decency limits on it.

I take the opposite approach. I think too often people take the relatively anonymity of nic names to act like asses or create some sort of alternate persona. For me since many posters know who I am and have met many in person I am accountable for what I write here. To the extent that I feel this is an invasion into my privacy that is my choice how much I reveal or don't reveal.
