It started in prison but it did not signal gay sex. Clothes given to prisoners were routinely oversized and they were not given belts or anything to hold them up. This is what started the trend, actually the oversized clothing trend to begin with.

I think that people in the US have too much time on their hands as they go around judging everybody else on what they wear. It is rather stupid. Now I am not defending sagging because I dislike the practice myself but I think if somebody wants to do it then oh well, I am not going to spend my time worrying about it. I see threads in the Hangout often that asks if it is OK to do this or does this look OK and so on and so forth. Who gives a rat's ass? Wear what you want and if you enjoy it so be it even if it does make you look weird or ridiculous to every other person around.

I can completely understand companies making policies on dress codes and frowning on such dress but I think it is completely stupid that governments spend time making dress codes when there are obviously more pressing issues to deal with.

I saw a couple of kids with their pants literally around their knees yesterday, they had to walk bow legged like they had just been ***** (you get the picture) to keep them from sliding all the way down.

It just looks trashy and bugs the hell out of people.

In this particular instance it was a private company that made up the rule.

Too vague a standard to not be abused to accomodate specific prejudices.

So this guy can sit next to you on your next flight?

Face it: there are certain situations where you should cover up for the sake of those around you, and being crammed in a flying metal can at 35,000 feet with a hundred other people is one of them.

I saw an episode once of some Airline reality tv show about Southwest. This one mid aged dude supposedly had an offensive odor. Some cute Southwest lady talked to him and gave him a free shirt and some soap. He obliged by washing up in the men's room before the flight.

Maybe this kid did have a lot on his mind and the situation wasn't handled as delicately as it could have been. But, imo, in doesn't justify him refusing to obey a simple request that really doesn't violate his right to fly.

Looks like he was arrested for REFUSING to comply, not for the sagging pants itself.

His sagging violates his rights of "expression"?

What I hate is the guy KNOWS he's being provocative in how he's wearing the clothes. Its not like he possesses NO AWARENESS that he's probably the ONLY one in a 100 yard radius with his pants below his butt. To then act like he's offended when he's called out on it is absurd.

Thats how it is with most people and their excessive styles of dressing, not just black people. The people with 1,000 tattooes and piercings and multi-colored hair that willingly go hard against the grain. And then act all butt hurt when they're not "accepted".

The airline didnt ask him to get a buzzcut and a shave. Just pull up the pants, geez.

Perhaps, but in this case, all he had to do was pull up his pants. He didn't have to change his clothes. It's not like they were questioning words or symbols on a shirt or hat.

I must say that I'm very disappointed that, after 4 pages, there's not a single Airplane! reference.

I support letting people wear their pants around their knees.

Makes it easier to spot dumbasses.

Companies making dress code rules for their establishments and properties: Fine.

Governments (really the several cities I've heard about instituting laws and ordinances on dress) : Ignorant. There are so many other things that governments COULD worry about besides the way somebody dresses.

Nowadays though, does a line need to be drawn as to what is appropriate when someone is walking down the street? Things are getting more and more 'daring' (for lack of a better word). If seeing a significant portion of someone's underwear isn't the stopping point, what is?

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned how it may have also set the takeoff/landing back 10-15 minutes as well. If it did, he obviously just didn't care that he was causing so many other people to run late.

    Pull your pants up!

As far as my stance....even though it shouldn't, it does get on my nerves. Unlike some others, I just don't care to see peoples boxers. Usually when I see people walking around holding their pants up or having to walk bow-legged, I can't help but laugh. Why subject yourself to the trouble?

Oh really, Lil Pun? Why pretend? We both know perfectly well what this is about.

You want me to have an abortion.

Just pull your pants up, get on the plane, land, pull your pants down, resume looking like an idiot. Problem solved.

    He created his own problem.
