Despite what the NBA says, Duncan is not international.

My friend asked me who was the best international player every and i replied Dirk. He asked if i had forgotten Hakeem. I said no, Hakeem went to college here so i don't see him as that.

If you were drafted straight from overseas, you qualify. If you are drafted from an american college, you don't IMO.

Pretty easy, Hakeem is the best international player to ever play the game. Dirk won't come close. He's not a strong two-way player, though his offense is so good it more than makes up for his defensive deficiencies. Hakeem was just as strong offensively, besides the three point shooting. In retrospect, their offensive games were quite different but unique and effective in their own ways. The thing that sets them apart will always be Hakeem's 4 DPOY accolades. A defensive monster and a player that could make any team an instant contender.

Since it appears we're not counting the ones who went to American colleges, then probably Dirk, Petrovic was good but died as mentioned before, there's a big dropoff, I guess Pau Gasol following that.

Neither Duncan or Hakeem is international. Just count the numbers of times they played in a FIBA international competition.

Most successful international players so far:

Dirk, Paul Gasol, Manu, Parker, Nash.

Nash went to an American college(Santa Clara). I think Parker played at Loyola.

Why isn't Hakeem international? he was born in Nigeria and spend his first 17 years there. I do not see how he is not international.

And ofcourse Hakeem had more success he has 2 championships and more personal awards.

    I disagree.

Hakeem and Dirk came to america at about the same age and both were playing American brand of ball about the same age. That crap about Hakeem not being international is just a load of crap so that people can exclude the obvious best international player of all time.

He played for the US Men's Team. Foreign-born, but All American.

I don't think Dirk, Drazen, or Kukoc would have done that.

Well, he played basketball entirely in the US. Plus, he never played for Nigeria international team as an adult.

If you have teammates calling you "The Big Swahili," you're international.

Why is Hakeem international but not Duncan?

If you look at their histories it's actually pretty similar.
