If he can win another open election, I can't complain. It's up to his constituents in NY if they want him to represent them or not.

Its not that often I can look at a post and say with perfect honestly that I agree with every single word. Well done sir. :)

Ive posted it before, but it applies here.

This subject has amused me because I dont have high standards for politicians, and the child in me appreciates all the dick jokes.

I will give him props for actually stepping down. I didnt think he actually would seeing as he *is* a politician.

I thought he was being sarcastic too...

I dont necessarily know how I feel about Weiner stepping down. I think it was a smart move for him, and agree with the sentiments of individuals who said he wouldnt be able to effectively legislate after this (at least not in the near term). I was also concerned about potential ethics violations that he'd have to respond to, and historically those investigations go on for months, if not years.

I always appreciated Weiner's zeal when it came to espousing his positions, but I disagreed with his approach. I've long felt that he was more interested in theatrics than he was in crafting effective legislature. I remember hearing his rant on the floor of the house concerning the 9/11 bill- at the time, the bill was nearing completion and a number of Republicans had finally come on board. His rant single-handedly derailed the process, and a congressman from NY later said about it, "He almost blew up the [expletive] bill."

I prefer politicians who understand how to work the process and craft legislature- Ted Kennedy brokered deals and knew how to work across the isle despite his overtly liberal leanings and purported corruption. He helped enact legislature that furthered his goals and the goals of his constituents, and he knew how (and when) to compromise.

I think part of the problem today is that we hold our politicians to absurd standards of ideological loyalty. That, if a politician is not in lockstep with our parties positions, he's immediately a sell out, flip flopper, dino/rino, etc. It's a tragedy of the two-party system, and its a tragedy of our politics that we often lack the type of politicians needed to resolve the problems that need addressing (just look at illegal immigration, healthcare, etc.). Anyways, just my 2 cents.

Nothing more really needs to be said in this thread, but Greenwald drives home the real lesson here, one last time.

Wienergate was all about the media doing its celebrity thing. Scwarthneger gate had died down for awhile.

The network nightly news and the political cable channels can boost their ratings for awhile with a mixture of celebrity sex and politics.

Have to admit I found it very watchable, though I felt guilty for not turning it off.

really? you waste your time watching that crap??
I actually agree with some who said this story wasn't a big deal and there were more important things to worry about, but he made it a big deal when he lied and denied everything and tried to make up some crap story to cover it up.

Just glad he resigned so we can stop hearing about it.

Anthony Weiner was created when Chuck Schumer took a really nasty dump one day.

You are such a pathetic person.. why dont you post my acutal post then just three words? Did i claim i watch that??? You are just so full of crap.

Also its true.. if you dont think half the news/media is just crap now you need to wake up. You have crappy stories like Justin Bieber got a tattoo on his titty.. WHO THE F CARES??

A few posters on this thread pointed that out, that there are so many more important issues than worrying about a congressmens weiner. I think rhads' political cartoon illustrates that quite well. The only reason why I think this story should be news worthy is because he lied, decieved, asked others to lie for him and tried to cover it up before he came clean. It's for that reason why I think he should resign not because he sent a pic of weiner.
