The fact that Dirk won without a true #2 is amazing

The mavs dont have a "true", and by true i mean an everyday, #2 player. What they do have is a good #1 (Dirk) surrounded by guys who are all very stellar #3 options. In any given game one of the #3 guys (Kidd, Terry, Marion) can really step it up. People saying that the Mavs have no one besides dirk are morons. You vastly underrate Kidd, Terry, Marion & Chandler. So is it better to have a solid #1 and #2 option OR a solid #1 and a whole host of guys that are #3's but capable of playing like a #2 in any game?

Lol u got pwned admit it. You made some wild claim that most teams could only go 6-7 deep. When I pointed out the mavs only went 6-7 deep you copped out and now your bringing some versality crap in the discussion.

They put barea in the starting lineup cause butler was injured and his replpscement Peja is absolute garbage. Who else could they rotate out? It. Was a barea or Terry. That's it. Doesnt sound so deep eh.

Again they only had 7 players in the rotation. Where is the versality? And the heat could of owned that match up. Ur telling me lebron and wade couldn't take a aging Kidd and a midget barea? Let's look at the bench outside of the starters again

    Games 1-2
    Barea, Peja, Haywood, Stevenson
Not so talented eh? In fact Miamis chalmers, miller, haslem looks better here

So they switched out Terry and barea in games 3-6
    Still u had
Terry, Stevenson and freakn cardinal and mahinmi. Aain cardinal for Christ sakes and a rookie.

So stop making stuff up and actually look at the line ups. I'm done with you. You got owned. Thanks good day

why this comparison between hakeem and dirk? They are two totally different players. Dirk clearly proved that a team can win a title with one superstar. Their role players did an excellent job coming through, there was no team that could beat them this post season. Don't forget that when we played the lakers a couple years ago we went up 17-1 or 18-1 with only one superstar, Ron Artest. Role players clearly do play a huge role in the playoffs, as Scola is not a superstar despite what we may think of him. So, you shouldn't say that Dirk won the title by himself but that the Mavericks won with one superstar, which is a fact. A superstar past his prime is not a superstar.

Jason terry was n2 to dirk, but he is not a true 2, like pau gasol was to kobe or even kobe to shaq. He is less talented, still he is the number 2. The only real all star on this championship team is Dirk, so props to him. Not many players could carry their teams without a really good 2, i can think of dream and duncan as the only others.
Still lets dont lie to ourselves, dallas is a very talented team, they have good players at all positions, wich is very rare.
pg: jason kidd/barea = 3 points, defense, rebounds
sg: jason terry/barea = good scoring, shooting, not so mutch defense.
sf: shawn marion/stevenson: good defense, marion inside game
    rebounds,stevenson 3s and defense.
pf: dirk/the custodian = dirk is mvp caliber, the custodian is just overpower.
c: Tyson chandler/brendan haywood = good d, rebounds, help defense.

This is a very solid team, not an allstar team like miami, but they dont have the holes miami got at pg , center and bench.

JET averaged 18ppg in the finals, go back and look at past Finals and u will see that any player averaging 18+ is considered a true #2 option.. In 2006 Shaq was D-wade's #2 and he only averaged 13ppg in the Finals..

I promise you on Pippens best year never averaged anymore than 22ppg in the Finals, every other championship run he was easily at the 18-20 range…

Terry was a #2. Facts like i stated above prove it.. i mean MJ and d-wade dropped 30+ a game in the finals… Dirk was at more like 25ppg..

having a #2 doesn't mean u have to be averaging 25ppg… terry plays starter minutes, his MPG are as much as most starters in the league regardless if he came off the bench or not.

Terry played pretty poorly until game 4. He might have gotten some points, but they were very inefficient. That's my only thought on him. He might have played like a 2 in the last 3 games, but he wasn't consistent. That was his problem throughout the playoffs, really. For a stretch there he had something like 6 games in a row that averaged out to something like 35% fg shooting.

Dirk getting his team to the Finals under those circumstances is actually the more impressive feat. Winning it, when terry started hitting shots, didn't surprise me.

I'm not dis crediting what Dirk did, but i am saying look at numbers.. go back and look at team stats and you will see that MJ scoring 35ppg in the finals and having pippen contribute maybe 17-21 in the 6 titles, then look at how balanced Dallas scoring was.. Dirk didn't come close to averaging what MJ or d-wade put up.. and still i say, Shaq who was d-wades supposed #2 only scored 13ppg in the 2006 finals.. so by the numbers, d-wade carried his team way more than Dirk carried his… I'm not saying Terry is a All Star by any means but i am saying had Dirk not had a terry then they don't win these Finals.. so the whole thing is dumb. NO player does it by himself EVER..

terry was the #2, when dirk needed more scoring because let us remember that dirk was sick for the last couple of games and that was when terry stepped in. If you are the #2 of a team that is when you step in and provide for the team. Dirk was still the best player for the mavs out there but clearly someone had to take some of the load and hey 4-2 they won.

Kidd, Marion and Chandler was the only reason that they could get away with a #1 and #2 options to be so defensively lacking, their team was craftily created to complement those 2 players and they won the ring. Props to their coaching and management and owner.

hope we get our #1 option in the near future....

just remember your calling a number 2, a 6th man.

    IDC about Manu

So if you really wanna call Terry a #2, he was the wost overall #2 compared to Pippen, Kobe (with shaq), and Gasol

dirk clearly won without a #2. i don't know why we're arguing here. but he had great depth, and guys who did everything else for him and allow him to focus on score: ala see game 6 of the finals.

despite not having a #2, he had less responsibilities than most other stars with a #2.

Forget it. It's obvious that you and I just look at the same thing and interpret differently.

I see the following as signs of a deep team. You see it as them having no depth.

    1. Having major injuries yet still prevailing. Look at the championships of the past and their injuries. You see very few having players the caliber of Butler and Haywood on the bench.
    2. Able to replace production from player(s) playing badly. You think this means the team sucks. I see it as "at least they can replace a bad player". Something Miami can't do because their roster is filled with bad players outside the big 3 and a couple of others.

Whatever. Since we see things in such different lights, I don't think anymore responses would matter. If you feel you've pwned me, so be it. It's really not worth it, especially since this isn't even about Houston.

We can say he didn't have a legit #2 OK, but he had a DAMN good lot of #3 options be it defense or offense. Marion, Chandler, Terry, Kidd - all good to great players in their own right. Then there were players who stepped up big like Barea and Stevenson.
When I think about Miami's role players I just think of Mario Chalmers in Game 6 where there was a fast break with him and LeBron and what does he do? Commit an offensive foul. Absolute bonehead useless player.

Well one thing we can all agree on is this has got to be the weakest champion team on paper since Wade's ring era. At least those guys had several HOFs (Mourning, Shaq, Payton)+Pat Riley himself coaching everyone.

Here you have Dirk+an old Kidd and a bunch of one dimensional players. To be quite honest, I'm not even sure how they managed to eliminate the Lakers and the Thunder, if they fought again next season with the exact lineup I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas got swept. Maybe the statistrcal analysis they did allowed them to maximize the one dimensional players they had, and take them out before their flaws cost the team games. I dunno

Anyway IMHO there's only 3 guys in recent memory who rings without superstar help: Hakeem, Duncan and of course Dirk. Please amazing feat for all three of them IMHO.
