the operative word being "TEAM". Can't leave off Dirk, Kidd, Chandler, Marion, Terry. So the Dallas scrubs might not be able to hang with FIBA stars. big deal. Barea and Peja would make the cut. Wasn't the Euro league that u speak so highly of dominated by David Andersen at one time? Stop trying to argue they're better than the NBA. Stick to the technical argument. LOL. OHMSS doesnt realize that they basically just did.
Any national team would get beaten by league team. Because they practice and play together much more. Even if nba championship team is 10 times better than any other's league team they still have to play them to prove that.
The Mavs weren't even predicted to win the NBA championship by the majority of people before the season. Why do you think they were the best team even in the US? Oh yeah, they PLAYED in a league tournament and beat all the teams they faced. Let me tell you why you guys all missed the point. You confuse "champion" with "best." In sports that requires playing head to head games to determine winners, you have to actually beat the opponent in order to be called the winner. It doesn't matter how much better you are on paper. How do you know the Mavs would beat any other team in the world? Have you ever heard a thing called "upset"? In fact, a lot of people believe that the Mavs upset the Lakers and the Heat. I don't know why this is something so hard to understand by posters who are otherwise pretty smart. The irony is, there is actually a real World Championship tournament by FIBA which include the USA.
I don't think anybody is really whining about it. (Okay, maybe OHMSS. I feel kind of dirty being on the same side with the dude.) I just think it's silly to call yourself world champion when you are not playing in a world league. I think it's the people who can't stand others pointing the silliness out that are whining.
This isnt about national pride or a USA vs the world. the star player of the Mavs isnt even American. If FIBA wants to include the NBA and allow the Euro stars who play in the NBA to play for the US then fine. but that wouldnt be fair at all now would it? Of course there is a chance of an upset but seriously doubt it. speaking of upsets... Dallas didnt "upset" anyone. they dominated. An upset might be one game or a close 7 game series. They swept the Lakers 4-0. That's called a beatdown. Houston vs. showtime lakers Sampson's last second prayer= upset. Houston sweeping Shaq n Penny Orlando that dominated MJ's Bulls=beatdown. The most they lost was 2 games to the supposedly best team in the NBA. it isnt a far stretch to say they could beat the Euro league champs (assuming no NBA players on that team).
thats because nba players have swag. they already know they are the best. they are by default the world champions. if some other team isn't happy about an nba team using that label, then THEY need to go beat the nba team to prove it. otherwise they can stfu because they know the truth. as does everyone.
I agree with Easy. The Mavs aren't World Champions, but, once again, we're arguing over semantics. When Dirk says "World Champion," I bet you the idea of being the best in the World didn't even cross his mind. Everyone does it...his only implication was that Dallas won the Championship. Simple as that. Also, its not even fair to have any american team compete against an international team, because great international prospects join the NBA. As far as talent goes, it's not even close. We can argue over semantics all we want, but 90 percent of the teams won't stand a chance against Championship contending teams.
No, I get it. and im not sure if the Mavs will play another game to technically become the World Champs but just sayin that I dont think it really matters. OHMSS is making some pretty bold statements that the reason is the NBA is scared of euroleague and euroleague is superior. That's just crazy talk.
Do you really think that it will be easy for them to beat the current FIBA World champion or the current Olympic World champion? I think we are talking of "world champions", not just any team.
90% of the best players in the world play in the NBA or flammed out trying to play in the NBA. The game in Europe is different, and a result some players have success over there that would not in America, and vice versa. However, the physical talent level in the NBA is overall far superior. It is similar to soccer in Europe and in the USA. The levels are vastly different.
Does the United Nations General Assembly represent the world? Because all of the delegates live in New York. Just wondering.
