Go to Fleet Feet Sports in Rice village. They'll take care of you. They look at your gait and see what kind of shoes you need and you can try them on. It can be a little pricey but there is no commitment to buy the shoes and you can just find out what kind of shoes are good for you and buy it later online.
Forgive me... I immediately thought of this: <iframe width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/unS0CXRMieA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I got me some Brooks, they're sweet. If you're close to midtown, go to Luke's Locker, they will point you in right direction. Or find one of the On the Run stores...
New balance -- nice that you can choose length and width -- plus they could be very light if you are willing to pay for it.
This. You should find that there is a right/brand shoe for you. There are definitely universally 'bad' shoes, but there isn't a top of the line great shoe that is good for everyone. New Balance has a great rep and makes high quality shoes that a majority of runners love, but they aren't the right shoe for my particular feet. When you find "your" shoe, stick with it.
I freaking LOVE my Adidas Bounce. I have been using them for roughly 3 years now and only replaced them once. I usually run about 2 miles every other day. I recommend the ones with the mesh on the top.
Agreed. Fleet foot would work too, but I prefer Lukes. I got fitted with Brooks and have loved them. I actually need to pick up a new pair.
I've used the Asics GT-2160 which are good imo. Currently using Nike Lunar Elites? and they suck for running. Could you give me specific models to check out?
Nike Free Run or any shoe from the free family of shoes. One of the most confortable shoes I ever worn, bought a pair for running a while ago, now I got 2 more pairs for everyday use.
I switched to these when my Pegasus blew out. I love them. They're incredibly comfortable. I run and work out in them, but I never run more than a couple of miles. If I ran more than that, I might want more cushioning, but as it is, they are perfect.
+1 for the specialty store recommendations. I go to Luke's Locker but I'm other specialty stores are just as good. Getting a shoe that's matched to your foot does wonders. Once you figure out what type of running shoe you need, then you can try out various brands.
New Balance FTW Also Nike ACG, I bought a pair at an outlet; most comfortable running shoe I ever had and has lasted forever including a marathon.
