agreed...I have no problem with it... What I do have a problem with is the stupid parade shutting downtown Dallas down...I work downtown and they're closing streets starting at 8 am...WTF? I don't get up till then...Now I have to wake up super early to get to work before 8 so I don't get stuck in traffic...
This has nothing to do with them being regarded as the best team in the world, or with them having won the Champions League. There is a relatively obscure tournament called the "FIFA Club World Cup", and they won it that year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_Club_World_Cup Not that it really matters...
Dallas is not the best basketball team in the world. There are plenty of national teams (including US) that are better.
Only about 5% of the best European players that ever lived have played in the NBA. Some that are as good or better than any European that ever played in the NBA. So you are wrong.
Barcelona won the club world championship genius. Basketball has no club world championship. Barcelona WON the CLUB WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. There is no club basketball world championship. Do you understand it? Barcelona won the actual world club championship of football (soccer). They actually play a WORLD tournament. The Dallas Mavericks played a USA/Canada tournament and have no right to be called a world champion. The only thing you are exposing is that your sports knowledge is incredibly anemic and weak. Until the NBA plays a world club tournament and wins it, they are NOT the "world champions". BTW, 2 years ago FIBA requested that there be a world club championship with the champions from around the continents and to include the NBA champion. EVERY other league agreed to it and accepted it. But it was cancelled because the NBA refused to participate. The NBA was too afraid to play and refused to allow it to happen. FIBA even offered to pay the NBA millions of dollars to play and they still refused. As of now, that world club championship of FIBA, like the world club championship of FIFA (the legit reason why Barcelona were called world champions) remains in limbo because the NBA still refuses to allow it to happen. Strange, that such a "superior" league is so absolutely frightened to play against those "inferior" other teams for the right to win an actual world championship.
Of course it matters, in the Champions league, they exclude a ton of good teams from the Americas particularly South America. How can they be WORLD champions if they don't invite the world. DD - using stupid logic to prove a point.
Stop trolling. There is a world tournament in soccer, which Barcelona won. The Champions League winner is NOT called the World Champion. ONLY the winner of the WORLD club tournament is called world champion. Those teams from outside Europe play at the world championship. Barcelona won the world championship so they were called world champions. If you can't grasp this, then you have no logic and should not be talking about anyone's logic. Or are you trying to say that the Champions League and the World Club Tournament are the same competition? If so, you are the least knowledgeable person about sports in this entire forum. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Champions_League Notice the UEFA. UEFA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_Club_World_Cup Notice the FIFA. FIFA. Now please provide your explanation for how these are the same tournament. How the European tournament is the same as the world tournament. I cannot wait to hear your explanation.
He's actually right about this. I don't know that the NBA refused though because of being scurred. Think it had more to do that the NBA teams play 82+ games and the teams that would be heading over there would have went all the way to the finals. Also that Stern wants the NBA itself to be a global league so he always seems to clash with some FIBA ideals.
Actually, the people that don't realize Barca were the world champions, because they won the WORLD CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP got destroyed.
The NBA Finals of Barea, Stevenson, Peja, Bibby, Cardinal, Mahinmi, Anthony, Howard - players like this on the two teams in the NBA finals and were playing in the series. Not a single player in that list would make the rotation of a top level Euroleague club. Not one of them would play at all in a top level Euroleague club, yet they were all playing in the NBA Finals.
Yup. That's it. The NBA is afraid of Euro and Asian teams b/c it is the weakest basketball league in the world. I see ur point about them technically not beating the FIBA champs but...
OHMSS is full of **** and is making a bad argument, but the fact of the matter remains that it is of course illogical to call it world championship. But who the **** cares. Or, in other words: Spoiler Not that it really matters.
If the rest of the world wants to whine about it, then they need to improve their overall basketball by about ten fold. DD
