The Dawn of the Dead re-make with running zombies was pretty great. Not the dated non-scary walking zombie stuff from back in the day. 28 Days Later
100% Agree. I found his newer films (Dairy of the Dead and Survival of the Dead) to be very good also.
I think it was from infected organs in a black market transplant in South America. But I also remember its spreading from a village in China I think too. I think that's where the first reports of the outbreak occurred.
Dawn of the Dead remake followed by 28 Days Later. I never got the appeal of Shaun of the Dead. Didn't think it was funny at all.
Right now I'm watching 28 days later. Now, I remember seeing it in the theaters when it first came out. (2002) Don't remember much at all though.
Lots of running and crying and a great score. It really is a great movie. Not just in the zombie category. It's amazing to me that George Romero hasn't done something worth talking about recently aside from Call of the Dead (PSN username: haydenjon). All his movies agruably since Day of the Dead have been duds. And that's coming from someone who really wants him to show us why he's the zombie king. I'm looking forward to World War Z with and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. They have to catch on eventually what makes for a good zombie movie. It doesn't seem that hard.
28 Days Later I love the Dawn of the Dead remake, too...but 28 Days Later is not just a great zombie movie...it transcends that and is just a great movie, period. By the way...my 11 year old and I are ADDICTED to the zombie levels on Black Ops. Holy crap, that's fun.
I hate zombie movies. They're usually totally lame and predictable but the two I've enjoyed the most are Night of the Comet and 28 Days Later. I'll throw in I Am Legend also if that qualifies as a zombie movie.
It was a comedy though moreso than a zombie flick. Shaun of the Dead I'm more iffy about, bc there were some heartfelt moments and every joke wasn't just at the expense of the zombies aka propgags. What makes for a good zombie flick in your opinion?
Gotta go with 28 Days Later. Boyle just got it right. Shaun of the Dead was pretty great too, as was Dawn of the Dead (2004), Zombieland and 28 Weeks Later (though not quite as good as the first one). But none of them top 28 Days Later. The zombies were just so menacing, and I liked how the humans were in many ways just as dangerous as the zombies. I liked Romero's films, but I never liked his zombies overly much. They just weren't menacing to me.
Zombie scenarios present the best and worst sides of the human condition. Presentation oftentimes skews toward the shock/gore but the genre IMO still has a huge reserve of untapped goodness. We're still in the JarJar phase. Humor has opened the door, but there's a lot of great themes to be explored. George Romero is up/down there with George Lucas.
