they are the world champions. the NBA is the #1 basketball league in the world, and comprises of the best basketball players in the world. he's right
people forget the nba did play the euro champ back in the 90s...houston actually went and played, and won, after their second ring. Without Dream too, IIRC. That being said, the competition overseas has improved. I think it would be silly to play just one game, but 2 out of 3 would be good to really declare a world champion. Nowdays players just say it out of habit, including dirk.
Only people with very low IQs think that the champion of the USA/Canada is the "World Champion". In fact, in most of the world the USA is laughed at over this type of ignorance. Dirk proves he is a typical moron.
No, you continually make yourself look stupid with posts like this. We're laughing at this type of ignorance. You sound like my dad who knows zilch about basketball.
The NBA champion is NOT the "world champion". And the claim that the NBA champion will easily beat any other team in the world is also BS. The NBA champion lost to the second placed ACB team. Yes, it is arrogance and ignorance. The champions of the Champions League are the best football (soccer) team in the world in all likelihood, at least equal so of a chance that is true as the NBA champs are the best basketball team in the world. The champions of the Champions League due not call themselves the "world champions", even though they have just as much claim to the title of being the best team in the world as the NBA champs do. Do the champions of Champions League call themselves "world champions"? No. They do not. They call themselves the "European champions". No other sports league outside of USA leagues, even if it is considered the best in the world, calls their champions, the "world champions". Only the USA does this and yes, the rest of the outside world just laughs at it. They laugh at it. NBA champions LA Lakers 88 - 2nd placed Spanish team, Barcelona 92 <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/rBey3WLwc5c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/XRmhciyJW7s" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The Lakers starters were playing the 4th quarter and giving their best and still lost. In a game with mixed rules (80% NBA/20% Euroleague) and mixed refs (67% NBA/33% Euroleague). And with an NBA court and NBA dimensions. As for Dirk, he never in his life won a club championship, not in Germany, and not in the NBA until this year. He has never in his life won a championship with the German national team. So, at age 32 he wins a single title. He is definitely not the authority on what championship titles mean.
That's because MLS teams are superior. Duh Please stop referencing a preseason game as the backbone of your argument. Geez Louise. I'm sure there was no fatigue from the Lakers flying all the way to the other side of world. Now, you have me defending the Lakers. SMH
The mavericks are the nba champions, calling them something else is just arrogant. Still i dont think Dirk even mean it, it just that its so common to call it that way.
When has the NBA EVER had the balls to play an official game against the Euroleague? NEVER. When has the NBA ever won an official game against the Euroleague? NEVER? They have no right to call the NBA champion, "the world champion". And whether you like it or not, under mixed rules and mixed refs, that still favor the NBA by percentage, and with NBA court distances, shapes, and dimensions - The NBA is 9-5 all time against the Euroleague and the NBA champs are 1-1 all time against the Euroleague champs. And if you claim you can't use preseason games as evidence, then that means there is ZERO evidence and ZERO claim that the NBA is the best league in the world. Since the NBA has never in history beaten a single Euroleague team in an official game. Which is incredibly odd and bizarre, if the NBA is really such a "superior league" that it has never even once had the balls to allow such a game to happen. If it was really so "superior" then it would want such games to happen, because it would automatically win and prove this "superiority". Instead, the NBA hides behind the preseason games and whenever the NBA teams win, it is because "they are superior". Whenever the NBA teams lose it is because "it was a preseason game". Funny, how that if someone claims a Euroleague team lost because "it was a preseason game" or that a Euroleague won because "they are superior", it is a "lie" and "ridiculous". Yep, so ridiculous that the NBA has the amazing 9-5 record against the Euroleague with mixed rules and refs (that still favor the NBA) and an NBA style court. That 9-5 record is truly astonishing......... The MLS is about the 30th-50th best league in the world. If you knew anything at all about sports, you would know that the MLS has no comparison to the Euroleague. If you think the Euroleague is the 30th-50th best league in the world.......
Your sarcasm meter is broken. I would have no problems with the champion of the Champions League to be referred as the World Champs. They're easily the best club teams in futbol. The same thing goes with the NBA. It's the best basketball league by far. The best players play in this league.
It's like calling the winner of a beauty contest of earthlings Miss Universe. Those who think there's nothing wrong with calling NBA champion "world champion" totally miss the point. It's not about whether the team is the best in the world. It's not about the players in the NBA are the best in the world. It's about whether NBA is a WORLD league.
It does not seem that most NBA fans can grasp such simple logic as this. No other leagues outside of the US call their champs, the "world champs". The fact that people argue over this and claim it is legit to claim a champion of USA/Canada is truly a "world champion" is, quite frankly, very pathetic.
Exactly. Everyone says it, so he said it, too. Big deal... It's like saying the Champions League winner in soccer is the "world champion". Obvious nonsense as well.
According to the guy with the highest IQ on this forum, the Champions League winner isn't referred to as the world champs.
