I actually think everything in the south is just a distraction, and what is happening in the north is the true problem/storyline.

Man, the last episode just gutted me, and I already knew after clicking on a spoilered tag I shouldn't have slicked on. I hope that twisted little inbred f***er king joffrey gets his when it's all said and done.

do they explain what happened to the message/messenger stannis was supposed to receive?
i understand you cannot predict what will happen in the show but i dont mind reading the spoiler on what happened in the book if its not too revealing

As far as the books go, I do think it was a mistake to kill off Ned and Drogo. I find myself skipping to Tyrion chapters on re-reads...

    spoiler that.
Drogo's fate hasn't been determined in the show.

    EDIT: sry about that durvasa

Stannis receives the letter and you get his response to finding out he has the best claim to the throne in book 2.

How about stay the hell out until you watch the episode? Spoiler tags should only be for something that hasn't happen on the show yet or people discussing about the series that weren't fully explain on the tv series.

That hasn't happened in the show yet
Drogo is still alive in the show. The last Dothraki scene is Daenerys is being brought into the tent where the seance is going on.

Jon Arryn, Lord of the Vayle. He was murdered(poisoned) by Cersei/Jamie Lannister. The first half of the first episode is all about this.

Jon Arryn, who was a mentor to Ned and Robert and the husband of Catlyn's sister (the crazy lady at the Eyrie with the spoiled kid). He was poisoned because he started snooping around about Robert's bastards.

i dont remember that being discussed, but the first 4 episodes were very confusing because i was trying to catch up on all the characters, dialect, places, and nuances that were brand new to me

i'll have to rewatch all of them i guess, i was in the middle of ep 3 when i was wondering that

Just wondering, are you telling him this because this is what we're led to believe so far in the show? I thought it was Lysa who was the real culprit (perhaps my memory fails me).

I think after episode 5, I rewatched all of them again and it was much easier to understand. I was also confused about the Arryn connection but sure enough in episode 1 the first thing they show in Kings Landing is Jamie and the Queen discussing whether anyone would find out, while the nuns performed the ritual over the dead Arryn's body.

that's the whole reason the King went to Winterfell in the first place, and the reason Jon Arryn's nutty wife warned the Starks and fled back to the Vale.

throughout the first few episodes, Ned is investigating why the former Hand was going around town checking up on King Robert's bastards.

Sean Bean, 'Game of Thrones' star, stabbed in bar brawl

It was just another night at the pub for "Game of Thrones" star Sean Bean, 52, and 22-year-old April Summers (not her real name -- shocking!), until someone made a lewd comment about the Playboy model.

Bean and Summers were standing outside a pub in London when, according to the U.K.'s Daily Mail, someone made the comment about Summers. Bean then followed the man down the street to challenge him, but returned to the bar without incident. Later, when he went out for another cigarette, Bean was allegedly jumped by a man and stabbed in the arm with a piece of glass.

Bean apparently suffered cuts to his arm and bruises to his face.

"He came in with a cut on his arm and a bruise on his eyebrow," says one witness. "We saw to his injuries with the first aid kit. He seemed ok and wanted to have another drink."
