We wouldn't have this absurdist drama of a thread if more people understood the ethos of doing the right thing. Period.

I sound like a broken record. That's not dramatic. It's all the swirling critics and excuse-makers that have layered the drama.

As usual, why do you insist on keeping up these meaningless cheapshots?

Here's my first post in this thread (#16) in which I mentioned stealing. Please note the opening clause....

Is jibba-jabba some codeword for truth?

But it wasn't you. For all we know, this woman is a complete idiot. That, however, doesn't make her into the evil b**** that giddyup has determined she is.

Again, maybe she did and the GS camp didn't want the responsibility of having a $1000 camera in their possession and told her to hold on to it while they got in touch with the owner - and then proceeded to not do anything.

The point is that you have no idea what actually happened behind the scenes and whether the lady was irresponsible or doing what the GS camp had asked her to do or got sick and was in the hospital for a month or any of 1000 other scenarios.

giddyup's whole shtick in the D&D is to defend insane positions by saying something along the lines of "I don't presume to know what he/she is thinking" or "I won't judge someone without all the facts" even when the facts are pretty clear. And yet here, he's happy to throw someone under the bus without really knowing the first thing about what actually happened.

What has resurfaced here, as in most every giddyup involved thread, is that his thin-skinned nature, self-righteousness, and myopic view turns people against him, even when he has a valid point.

As Major pointed out already, he invites this abuse and then plays incredulous victim.

I'm pretty sure she is a complete idiot. In the initial post, at the very end I called her a "turkey." Can you show me where I called her an "evil b****?"

If you can't, please stop putting words in my mouth.

Why is it beyond the pale to criticise someone who failed to correct their mistake? I'm told I should reward her. Fat chance.

She did nothing in this matter that is even worthy of praise; sorry but I refuse to praise someone for not stealing something-- unless they are 3 years old.

So in your book it is an "insane position" to expect somebody who walked of with your thousand dollar camera to make up for their mistake and make a good effort to return it?

There is zero indication that any of THIS happened: "Again, maybe she did and the GS camp didn't want the responsibility of having a $1000 camera in their possession and told her to hold on to it while they got in touch with the owner - and then proceeded to not do anything." -- major

The GS didn't tell us of that arrangement. The woman made no such claim, yet you use that complete hypothetical to defend her. BTW, the camp keeps our children, who are far more valuable, overnight. I doubt they would be intimidated by a camera.

The further point is that there should be no "behind the scenes." If you screw up like she did, fix it promptly. End of story

That really says more about you than me. Most people posting here don't even think I have a valid point. That is beyond sad.

I am incredulous when people justify irresponsibility and thievery with some kind of childish finders-keepers mantra.

If my nature was thin-skinned, I would not return to defend.

Self-righteous? Don't take other people's stuff; if you do, return it forthwith. We all should be "self-righteous" about that.

You didn't address the "myopic view" allegation.

See how this works? Some pull your string simply to watch you twitch.

I addressed it. Right is right. I guess that's myopic. Allegiance to a point of view is myopic, I suppose. So all those who refuse to see this "my way" are likewise myopic. I'll stick with the viewpoint that adheres to honesty.

I'm not twitching, just answering challenges. It's the second day of summer and I'm home with my children so I have a lot of time to stick to my guns. There is no reason to avoid stupid challenges; I have all the time in the world.... except now as I am off to swim with my daughters. :)

I thought after I posted that it may be misconstrued. I should have written "don't forget your camera". :)

requesting photos of little miss giddyups does convey more than a little sexual innuendo. however, with that fancy $1000 camera, the pics ought to be worth a look. ;)

the only facts you know for 100% certainty are:

    a) the lady contacted the girl scouts letting them know she had a camera of someone's that she mistakenly picked up thinking her friend had left it when her keeping it would've meant a $1000 camera for her and no one would've been the wiser.

    b) the very next day after your first contact with her, she met up with your wife to get the camera.

EVERYTHING ELSE is pure speculation on your part. instead of just being grateful that your camera was returned to you (when most of us who've misplaced our expensive electronics don't get that satisfaction), you want to continue to cast aspersions on this lady based on your own timeline of what is considered responsible.

"finding" a nice camera in a public place where you can give it to someone so that the proper owners can try to locate it and choosing to keep it instead, is stealing.
